Marlin Long, 83, of Carthage, passed away
at Memorial Hospital in Carthage on Monday, May 20, 2013 at 2:15 P.M.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 24, 2013 at the First
Baptist Church in Carthage with burial to follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery in
Carthage. Visitation with the family will be held from
4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.
Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church in Carthage or
H.U.G.S. Printy Funeral Home in Carthage is in charge of
arrangements.
Don is survived by his wife, Cinda, of Dallas City; his
three children, Kirk Snyder of Dallas City, Kristin Norman of Carthage, and
Keith (Kyra) Snyder of Elvaston; and one brother, Calvin (Brenda) Snyder of
Carthage. He is also survived by seven grandchildren,
Kendra Snyder, Jace, Karli, and Aneisha Norman, and Kailin, McKenzie, and
Clayton Snyder. He is survived by his mother-in-law,
Jerri Hardy, of Carthage; and a brother-in-law, David (Peggy) Hardy of
Gridley, Illinois. He is also survived by two uncles, Dan
(Liz) Snyder and James (Wilma) Snyder of Carthage. He is
survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister,
Marlene Hale; and an infant son, Kevin Dale Snyder. He graduated from Carthage Community High School in
1963. He served in the U.S. Army from September 5, 1967
to December 20, 1968. He was stationed in Pleiku, Vietnam
and was a part of Company D – 815th Engineer Battalion.
Over the years he worked as a farmer, truck driver, and factory
worker. He loved spending time with his wife, children,
and grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, hunting,
gardening, antiquing, playing cards, traveling and watching football. Visitation will be held at Printy Funeral Home in
Carthage on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M.
Casual attire is fine. A graveside service with military
rites will immediately follow the visitation at Moss Ridge Cemetery in
Carthage. Memorials may be directed to the Evangelical
Free Church in Keokuk or to a church of your choice; Blessing Hospice of
Quincy; St. Jude’s Hospital; the V.F.W. or American Legion in Carthage.

Maxine was born August 25, 1921 near Carthage, Illinois, the daughter of
James and Alma (Ellefritz) Neally. On June 21, 1941, she was united in
marriage to Lester A. Webster in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in
death on April 22, 1986.
Maxine is survived by one daughter, Patricia (Allen) Schurtz of Carthage; a
brother-in-law, Arygle Webster of Carthage; two grandsons, James Allen of
Alton, TX and Curtis (Brenda) Allen of Sullivan, Illinois; three great
grandchildren, Aleta (Mike) Crouch and Avery Allen of Sullivan and Austin
Allen of Bushnell; and one great great grandson, Liam Crouch of Sullivan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, James Neally, Jr.;
two sisters, Claris Smith and Betty Kiesow.
Maxine was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carthage. She
attended school in Carthage. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking
very much. She looked forward to getting her hair fixed every week at
Sandy’s. Her whole life was her family that she loved and worried
about all the time. She loved having everyone gather around the
kitchen table and the coffee pot was always on with a dessert of some kind.
It was a deep loss to her when her very close niece, Janice Jones, passed
away in 2012. Maxine will be greatly missed by her family. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M.

Terry was born April 24, 1954, in Macomb, Illinois, the
son of Robert and Helen L. (Johnston) White. He attended
Plymouth High School graduating in 1972. In 1988, he was
united in marriage to Lorrie Walker in Keokuk, Iowa.
Terry was on the St. Mary’s Township Board and had just been elected as the
Township Supervisor. He had been a trustee before that.
He was a member of Farm Bureau and the Soil Conservation Board.
Terry enjoyed watching all sports. He was a member
of the Macomb Bowling League for many years and also played catcher in fast
pitch softball. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed
spending time in Arizona to play. He was a board member
of the Tri-County Country Club and was regularly seen helping around the
course and repairing equipment. He enjoyed following the
Chicago Cubs and especially the Minnesota Vikings. He was
a member of St. Mary’s Baptist Church. Terry was a
lifelong farmer and lived on the home place.
Terry is survived by his wife, Lorrie, of Plymouth; three children,
Elizabeth “Libbie” White of Quincy, Casey Sargent of Burlington, and
Christopher Sargent of Carthage; his mother, Helen L. White of Carthage; a
brother, Ron (Linda) White of Mountain View, California; four sisters, Kathy
Merkle of Danforth, Illinois, Jan (Rodger) White and Susan (Tommie) Long,
both of Carthage, and Carol (Steve) Helenthal of Hamilton; two
grandchildren, Garrett and Gannon Sargent; many aunts, uncles, nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert White; a sister,
Barbara; a nephew, Eric White; and a brother-in-law, Stuart Merkle.

at the First United Methodist Church in Carthage with burial to follow in
St. Mary’s Cemetery in St. Mary, Illinois. Visitation

Minnie was born September 17, 1926, the daughter of
Jacob and Alma (Tobias) Janssen in Harmony Township, Hancock County,
Illinois. She was baptized on October 3, 1926 and
confirmed on March 29, 1942. On February 14, 1947, she
was united in marriage to Virgil J. Huls at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
He preceded her in death in 1998. They were a
life-long farm family. Minnie had served as a Grey-Lady
at Memorial Hospital, volunteered at the Back Closet clothes pantry, and was
a member of the women’s sewing group at Immanuel Lutheran Church, of which
she was a lifetime member. Minnie is survived by four children, Carla (Kenneth)
Crossland of Bowen, Carolyn (Gary) Icenogle, Nancy Huls, and Lester (Yvonne)
Huls, all of Carthage; seven grandchildren, Steven (Megan) Icenogle, Cheryl
(John) Predmore, Kathy (Heath) Thomas, Jennifer (Christopher) Meeks, Darin
(Amanda) Crossland, Valerie (Curtis) Koch, and Travis (fiancé, Ashley
Beckett) Huls; 12 great grandchildren, Jessie and Zachary Icenogle, Dalton
Koenig-Plath, Natalie and Sarah Predmore, Aiden, Asher, and Ames Thomas,
Samuel and Benjamin Meeks, William Crossland, and Austin Koch. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband,
Virgil; an infant daughter, Carlene Rae; two sisters, Carrie Johnson and
Anna Janssen; and two brothers, John and Meint Janssen. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday,

Alice was born March 15, 1930, in Lorraine, Illinois the
daughter of Daniel and Bessie Mae (Sparrow) Leasman. She
was a member of the Ferris Christian Church. Alice is survived by her daughter, Betty Jean (Terry)
Durnil of Wenatchee, Washington; a granddaughter, Christina Durnil of
Wenatchee; a sister, Ethel Fellinger of Carthage; three brothers, James
Leasman of Newark, Missouri, Robert Leasman of Carthage, and Daniel “Boone”
Leasman of Ursa; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, John
Reiter; and two brothers, Walter and Ernest Leasman. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M.
Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. Visitation
will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday evening at Printy Funeral Home in
Carthage.
Patricia was born November 13,
1935 in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Ronald and Nellie (Booker) Estabrook.
She graduated from Hamilton High School in 1952.
On May 9, 1959, she was united in marriage to John E. Fecht at Bethel
Presbyterian Church in Hamilton. He preceded her in death
in 2011. Patricia was an antique dealer in the area for
many years and enjoyed attending flea markets and auctions. In recent years
she was a member of the Safford Group that worked with the restoration of
the Safford Memorial Auditorium in Hamilton, Illinois.
Patricia is survived by four children, Blaine (Chris Wilsey) Fecht of
Warsaw, Yvette (Cliff) Huddleston of Normal, Illinois, Yvonne (Lester) Huls
of Carthage, and Brent (Suellina Koenes) Fecht of Fairfax, Iowa; seven
grandchildren, Tyler, Trevor, and Erin Huddleston, Valerie (Curtis) Koch and
Travis (fiancé, Ashley Beckett) Huls, and J.D. and Ryan Fecht; and one great
grandson, Austin Koch.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John in 2011; a
brother, Bruce Estabrook; and a sister, Marjorie Love. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Saturday
evening at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. Private
family burial will be held in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton at a later date.

Patsy was the daughter of Lee and Ruth (Mapes) Cravens.
She was born February 15, 1937, in Ferris, Illinois.
On September 2, 1953, she was united in marriage to Frank “Brud”
Neally, Jr. at the Baptist Parsonage in Carthage. He
preceded her in death in 1990. She was a member of the
First Christian Church (DOC) in Carthage. Patsy was a
loving housewife and mother to her family and she loved spending time with
her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Patsy is survived by six children, Stan (Suzy) Neally,
John Neally, Mark Neally, Danny Neally, and Kim (Ed) McQuigg all of Carthage
and Lisa Neally of Hamilton; 12 grandchildren, Mitchell, Justin (Fiancé,
Mackenzie), and Ethan Neally, Josh (Jamie), Jacob, Jared, and Olivia Neally,
Lisa (Josh) Gosnell, Tyler (Elizabeth) and Tarah Neally, Lindsey
(Devon) Bell and Kayla (Patrick) Haigh; 12 great grandchildren, Ryder,
Kelsey, Trenton, Cole, Veda, Hudson, Jamarion, Emery, Eben,
Chloee, Colten, and Cashten; several half sisters and brothers
including Jim Kirkhart of St. Augustine, Florida and Delores Akers of
Hamilton; also a special aunt, Phyllis (Charles) Vass of Ferris. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Ruth
Cravens; her husband, Frank “Brud” Neally, Jr.; a grandson, Evan Neally; and
two brothers, Jack and Dick Mapes.

Darlene was born July 5, 1928, the daughter of
Edward Elsworth and Tracey Anna (Klassing) Stauffer in St. Mary’s Township,
Illinois. She attended high school in LaHarpe and graduated from
Carthage High School in the class of 1946. She then received her
teaching certificate from Western Illinois University and successfully
taught for 3 years in country schools from 1947-1949. On June 26,
1949, Darlene was united in marriage to Frank Orth Shoup at St. Mary’s
Baptist Church in St. Mary, Illinois. Her wedding gown was made from
parachute material brought home by Frank after serving in the Navy in WWII.
Darlene had worked 25 years at the Hancock County Journal-Pilot Newspaper
putting together the classified advertising page. She was a member of
the Mt. Pleasant Christian Church and TOPS.
Darlene is survived by her husband, Frank, of Carthage; six children,
Carolyn Marie (Jim) Freiburg of Naperville, Illinois, Dolores “Jean” (Bob)
Williams of Carthage, Alan Dwayne Shoup of Carthage, Harry “Edward” (Angela)
Shoup of Springfield, Illinois, Rita Kay (Joe) Jefferson of Plymouth,
Illinois, and Joyce Eileen (Mike) Robinson of Bentley, Illinois; 17
grandchildren, Craig Freiburg, Jeffrey (Mia) Freiburg, and Tracy (friend,
Brian) Freiburg, Bryan (Liza) Williams, Darren (Brandy) Williams, and Danny
Williams, Cathy Shoup, Greg Shoup, and Tarey (fiance, Heather) Shoup, Jarrod
Shoup, and Eric Shoup, Sarah (fiancé, Eric Lenz) Jefferson, Steve Jefferson
and Katy (Erik) Gullickson, Robby (Jenny) Robinson, Ryan (friend, Jen)

Willis was born February 11, 1939, near West Point,
Illinois, the son of Edwin F. and Irean Rebecca (Myers) Linnenburger.
Willis attended Warsaw High School graduating in 1956.
He was a lifelong farmer in Hancock County. Willis
served in the U.S. Army from 1962 until his honorable discharge in 1964.
The Cuban Missile Crisis occurred during his service time. Willis is survived by a sister, Alta A. Linnenburger of
Terre Haute, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at Printy Funeral Home in
Carthage on Saturday afternoon, April 20, 2013 at 3:00 P.M. with burial to
follow in West Point Cemetery. Visitation will be held
from 1:00 P.M. until time of services at the funeral home.

Russell was born April 9, 1931, in Atlas, Illinois, the
son of Harry and Electa (Tedrow) Reeder. He was united in
marriage to Sandra Harrington in Carthage, Illinois, in 1975.
Russell helped farm in his younger years and later worked as a
mechanic and Maytag Appliance repairman. Russell enjoyed
visiting with people and being with his children and grandchildren.
Family was important to Russell and he looked forward to his regular
phone conversations with his sister. He was active around
the house and liked to cook. Russell took special care of
his cats and feeding the birds. Russell is survived by his wife, Sandra, of Hamilton; 4
children, Tammy Reeder of Columbia, Missouri, Kim (Haldon) Van Tassel of
Mexico, Missouri, Brad Reeder of Mexico, Missouri, and Chris (Angela) Reeder
of Mexico, Missouri; two step-children, Debbie (Joe) Vandemark of Macomb,
Illinois, and Rick (Kim) Goertz of Rochester, Illinois; 12 grandchildren; 2
step-grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Ima Jean
Applegate and Alice Kelly, both of Chesterfield, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers,
Lyndell, Wilber, Guy, and Pete; two sisters, Mae and a sister in infancy;
three half-brothers; and 2 half-sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday,
April 18, 2013, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in
McKay Cemetery near Burnside. Visitation will be held
from 9:30 A.M. until time of services at the funeral home on Thursday.

Royce Finis Derks
He was born January 17, 1942, in Keokuk, IA, the
son of Lawrence (Lonnie) and Alice (Behnke) Buckert. He married Alice Mae
Price on January 1, 1965 at the Elvaston Presbyterian Church, Elvaston, IL.
She survives in Elvaston. Other survivors include: a daughter, Kimberly
(John) Fox of Hamilton, IL.; a son, Bryan (Jill) Buckert of Hamilton, and 6
grandchildren: Cole, Will and Megan Fox; Allyson and Bryce Buckert, and
Blake McGhghy, all of Hamilton; 1 sister, Deborah (Richard) Kropp of
Menomonee Falls, WI; Two sisters-in-law, Betty Price and Marilee (Pug)
Price, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his
parents and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Glenn and Elsie Price. Don graduated from Hamilton High School with the
class of 1960. He attended Carthage College for 2 years and the University
of Illinois College of Pharmacy at Chicago, graduating in 1966. He was a
member of Delta Omega Nu and served as president of the American
Pharmaceutical Association Student Chapter from 1965-1966. He started his pharmacy career at Keasling’s
Pharmacy in Keokuk, IA. in 1966. He then worked as Director of Pharmacy at
St. Joseph Hospital in Keokuk where he implemented the Unit Dose System of
delivering medication, which was new to hospitals and enhanced patient
safety while decreasing medication errors. After the merger of the two
hospitals in Keokuk, he was Director of Pharmacy and Materials Management at
Keokuk Area Hospital until 1976. Don worked as Director of Pharmacy at
Sacred Heart Hospital in Ft. Madison, IA that later became Ft. Madison
Community Hospital from 1976 until his retirement in 2010. He continued to
work part-time at the hospital and was honored for 35 years of service in
2011. Don enjoyed working most Saturdays at Glash Drug in Bushnell, IL. for
34 years. He was a member of the American Society of Health-System
Pharmacists and enjoyed attending annual mid-year conventions. He served on the Elvaston town board from
1967-2003. Don was a long-time active member of the Elvaston Community
Church (formerly Elvaston Presbyterian Church) in Elvaston, IL. Over the
years, he served as an elder on the board of session, taught Sunday school,
was a member of the choir, and was treasurer for 32 years. He was always
ready and willing to assist in any project in which the church was involved. Community involvement included coaching Little
League for 4 years. He was an avid sports fan and loved to watch football,
basketball, baseball, and golf. One of his favorite joys was spending time
with family and watching his children and grandchildren participate in
sports and activities. Don and Alice Mae were honored as Sports Boosters of
the Year in 2005. He was a passionate St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay
Packers fan. Don had a great love of the outdoors and nature,
enjoying duck hunting, yard work, and planting trees. He enjoyed beekeeping
as a hobby. DoBry Apiaries started as a 4-H project with son, Bryan in 1979,
and grew into a well-known beekeeping business, producing some of the finest
honey in the area. Music was a big part of Don’s life. He played
trombone and was a long-time member of McNamara’s Band and Hamilton
Community Band, as well as various community orchestras. Don enjoyed
travelling with family and friends, creating many wonderful memories. Services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, at Elvaston
Community Church, Elvaston, IL. with Pastor Ronald Leonard officiating.
Burial will be in Elvaston City Cemetery. Visitation is after 1 p.m.

Adeline was born February 10, 1931, in Bear Creek
Township, Hancock County, Illinois, the daughter of Henry and Frieda (Fecht)
Huls. On March 15, 1948, she was united in marriage to
Johnnie Tobias at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Basco.
Adeline was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and had served as the Ice
Cream Social Chairman for 25 years. She enjoyed gardening and
sewing. She had a great love for her family and the Lord. Adeline is survived by her husband, Johnnie of West
Point; five children, Pauline (Eli) Shirey of Carthage, Duane (Peggy) Tobias
of Lorraine, Gloria (Bill) Wavering of Palm Bay, Florida, Bill (Linda)
Tobias of Carthage, and Jeff (Terri) Tobias of Augusta; 14 grandchildren and
14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Glen in
1983; and two sisters in infancy. Funeral services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran
Church near Basco at 10:00 A.M. Monday, April 8, 2013.

Kathryn was born November 27, 1923 in Colchester, Illinois the daughter of
Elmer and Jeannette (Stone) Justus. She graduated from Carthage High
School in 1942 and then worked as a telephone operator in Carthage for many
years. On February 22, 1947, she was united in marriage to Hursel H.
Hanks and they farmed together their entire married life. He
preceded her in death in 1996. Kathryn was secretary of the Dallas City Free
Methodist Church for many years. Upon dissolution she became a member
of the Elvaston Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the
Hancock County Historical Society and served on the election board in
Elvaston. For many years she raised chickens and had an egg route in
the Hamilton/Carthage area. She enjoyed gardening, canning and
freezing the bounty of her garden. She enjoyed raising rhubarb and
asparagus, winning several awards at the Icarian Rhubarb Festival in Nauvoo
for the largest stalk and leaf of rhubarb. She also enjoyed growing
flowers, especially iris. Kathryn loved to attend auctions and garage
sales and she collected cook books and recipes, often adding her special
touch to make the dish her own.
Kathryn is survived by five children, C. Vernon (Susan) Hanks of Heyworth,
Illinois, Herbert G. Hanks of West Frankfort, Illinois, Jill Douglas, Janene
(Victor) Viola of Springfield, Illinois, and H. Wayne (Bobbye) Hanks of
Carthage, Illinois; 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; a sister,
Eleanor (Richard) Sopp of Ballwin, Missouri; two brothers, James (Shirley)
Justus of Elvaston and Jerrold Justus of Carthage; and many nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hursel; a brother,
William Justus; and a sister, Janice Justus. Funeral services
will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Printy Funeral Home in
Carthage with burial to follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage.

friends who loved him very much. He was preceded in death by Grandpas Michael Strange and Bud Krohe,
Grandmother Lois Krohe, Aunt Jenny Krohe and cousin Jennifer Gossage.
Wayne was born June 9, 1937, the son of Wilfred and
Arline (Huls) Fecht on the family farm in rural Carthage.
He graduated from Carthage High School in 1956. On
October 26, 1958, he was united in marriage to Audrey M. Rothert at the
Methodist Church in in Carthage. They were married over 47 years.
Wayne was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Carthage and
attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage. He had
served on the church council at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Wayne loved horses and was a member of the Bentley Saddle Club.
He was well-known for his carriage rides at special events in the
area, including parades, weddings, and prom. Wayne was a life-long grain and
livestock farmer in the Carthage area. Wayne is survived by four children,
Jerry (Lynn) Fecht of Carthage, Mark (April) Fecht of Naperville, Illinois,
Debbie (Donnie) Limkemann of West Point, and Dean (Angie) Fecht of Carthage;
ten grandchildren, Kyle (Jenna), Brandy and Kelum Fecht, Jeremy, Rachael and
Elizabeth Fecht, Danielle (Marc) Corcoran, Dustin and Dakota Limkemann, and
Kirby Fecht; his mother, Arline Fecht of Carthage; a sister, Donna (Gary)
Eilers of Keokuk; a sister-in-law, Terry Fecht of Carthage; and friends,
Dyanne Miller of Carthage and Larry Vance of Carthage.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wilfred; wife, Audrey in
2005; a brother, Norman; and an infant sister. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M.

Mary lee was born February 12, 1938, in Galesburg,
Illinois the daughter of John and Onia (Flynn) Bair. On
November 1, 1969, she was united in marriage to Lester H. Decker in
Galesburg, Illinois. Marylee was a licensed CNA and
worked in home health care for the Hancock County Health Department for 20
years. She enjoyed bird watching and her flowers and
dogs. She loved spending time with her children,
grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Marylee is survived by her children, Bruce (Gail) Meier
of Auburn, Washington, Norman (Leanne) Decker of Edgewood, Texas, Noel Meier
of Kahoka, Missouri, Cindy (Tom) Hast of Champaign, Illinois, Christine
Wildrick of Keokuk, Judy (Doug Camp) Price of Elvaston, Dusty Decker of
Hamilton, and Patti (Dean) Jinkens of Hamilton; 15 grandchildren; many great
grandchildren; and one brother, Dean (Helen) Bair of Knoxville, Illinois;

Joan was born April 11, 1938, the daughter of Hubert and
Goldie May (Seigfreid) Thomas near LaHarpe, Hancock County, Illinois.
She attended LaHarpe High School graduating in 1956. After
graduation she worked for Champion Spark Plug in Burlington, Iowa from 1956
– 1958. On November 24, 1960 she was united in marriage
to Glenn Johnson in Burlington, Iowa. Joan was a farm
wife. She enjoyed camping, going to the State Fair, and
spending time at the Lakeview Boat Club in Hamilton. She
was a member of the Carthage V.F.W. Post 5117 Women’s Auxiliary and Trinity
Lutheran Church in Carthage. Joan is survived by her son, Tony Johnson of Burnside;
four grandchildren, Mendy, Wesley, Tori Jo, and Travis; her companion, Vince
McBride of Burnside; three brothers, Pete Thomas of Burnside, Keith Thomas
of Plymouth, and Byard Thomas of Davenport, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn Johnson

Judy was born November 29, 1940, in rural Colchester,
Illinois, the daughter of Charles Keith and Doris (Crose) Hoing.
She graduated from Carthage High School in 1958.
After graduation she worked at Shaeffer Pen in Ft. Madison.
On March 4, 1962, she was united in marriage to Wayne Bolton at the
Mt. Pleasant Church near Bentley. Judy was a farm wife
and homemaker. She was a member of the Ferris Christian Church. Judy is survived by her husband, Wayne of Carthage;
three children, Debbie (Ed) Lionberger of Dallas City, Mary Jo (Al) Frakes
of Carthage and Jim (Mary) Bolton of Carthage; nine grandchildren, Kaylyn,
Kevin, Kristian and Kollin Lionberger, Mark and Sara Frakes, and Emily,
Samantha and Lisa Bolton; her mother, Doris Hoing of Carthage; two sisters,
Roberta (Dale) Bruenger of West Point and Carol (Kenny) Thompson of
Carthage; and one brother, Don (Evelyn) Hoing of Carthage. She was preceded in death by her father, Keith; a
granddaughter, Katie Frakes; and a brother, Charles “Chuck” Hoing. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday

Missouri. She graduated from Carthage High School in 1989. She
is survived by her parents, Lou Ann and Joe Pence of Carthage; her fiancé,
Ross Simmerman of Marietta, Georgia; and a daughter, Anjalina “Anji” Barclay
of Marietta, Georgia; a brother, Steven (Misty) Pence of Dresden, Tennessee;
her maternal grandmother, Christene (Charles Blue) Carle of Carthage; her
aunt and uncle, Ed and Rosie Barclay of Carthage; and numerous uncles,
aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Dee
Barclay; her paternal grandparents; and maternal grandfather. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday,
March 29, 2013 at the Webster Community Church, Webster, Illinois.

Don was born in rural south east Iowa, the third
son of Herman and Hazel (Shafer) Bentzinger on March 24, 1923. Don served in
the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theatre from Feb. 1943 until his
honorable discharge in October of 1945. In 1948 he was united in
marriage to Ruth Coleman and was self-employed as a carpenter until he
stared working at Carthage College in 1949. He was serving as the
Director of Buildings and Grounds until the college closed. He
continued to take of the property when Robert Morris College took over the
campus. He left Robert Morris to buy an existing hardware store that
became Bentzinger Home Supply, which he owned and operated until his death. Don is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Carthage;
two sons, Michael (Bonnie) Bentzinger of Carthage and Roger (Susan) Coleman
of Pennsylvania; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one
brother, Derril (Mary) Bentzinger of Bushnell. He was preceded in death by his parents; his
second son; two brothers, John and Robert Bentzinger and three sisters,
Doris Bentzinger, Maxine Woods and Betty Bentzinger. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on
Friday, March 15, 2013 at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to
follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage. Visitation will be held
from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.

Helen Marie Main
Nolden was born April 16, 1919, the daughter of Earl Carlisle, Sr. and
Christine (Pedersen) Main in Dubois, Idaho. She graduated in 1936 from
Carthage High School and went on to graduate from Carthage College in 3
years with degrees in Biology and English. Helen was also the 1939
Commencement Queen. After college, she taught for a time in a one-room
school house. Helen later worked for WLS radio in Chicago. She then went on
to work as a secretary and model for Stix, Baer and Fuller Department Store
in St. Louis, Mo. On March 7, 1943,
Helen was united in marriage to Wade Edward “Bud” Nolden at Trinity Lutheran
Church in Carthage. She was then a “military wife” for the 23 years
that Bud served in the Marine Corps. Upon his retirement from the service,
they returned to Carthage to live at “Mainwood”, Helen’s old family home.
Helen then was Medical Records Librarian at Memorial Hospital for 17 years,
retiring in 1982. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage,
Daughters of the American Revolution, Chapter J of P.E.O. and the Carthage
Women’s Club. Helen was a
devoted and loving wife and mother who always put her family first, and
tried hard to instill good values and manners in her children and
grandchildren. Her educational background led her to encourage a love of
reading, history, music and science in them as well. She loved flowers and
had a great appreciation for the natural beauty of the world. Helen loved
doing genealogical research, the history of the Carthage area, participation
in her women’s groups and playing bridge with her friends. Helen is survived
by her three children; William E. Nolden of Carthage, Jennifer (Darrell)
Reynolds of Macomb, and Christopher (LaDonna) Nolden of Carthage, seven
grandchildren; Briana Nolden, Gracie and Caitlin Whalen, Isaac (Lydiana),
Henry, Molly, and Vincent “Will” Nolden; two great-grandchildren; a sister,
Joan (Paul) Swope of Crete, Illinois; a brother, George Victor (Evelyn) Main
of Kenosha, Wisconsin; and a sister-in-law Viola Main of Atlanta, Georgia. Helen was preceded
in death by her parents; her husband, Wade “Bud” Nolden; and four siblings;
Marian Roth, Earl C. Main, Jr., Charles Main, and Grace Ann Main Pence. Memorial services
will be held at 2 P.M. Saturday, February 23 at Trinity Lutheran Church in
Carthage. There will be a fellowship with family and friends after the
service. A private family burial service will follow. Memorials may be

Stephanie was born December 23, 1966, the daughter
of Robert C. and Betty Joan (Deere) Vass in Ft. Madison, Iowa. She
attended Nauvoo-Colusa High School, graduating in 1985. She enjoyed
walking and reading. On January 4, 1986, she was united in marriage to
Richard Hale in Burnside. He preceded her in death in 2011. Stephanie is survived by four children, Nathan,
Jeffery, Benjamin and Kaliegh Hale, all of Keokuk, two grandchildren,
Katelyn Eby and Quintin Hale; her father, Robert Vass of Adrian; three
brothers, Roger (Pauline) Vass of Nauvoo, Randy Vass of Adrian, and Michael
Vass of Adrian; two sisters, Debbie (Mike) Boyer of Niota and Kathy Woods of
Ft. Madison. She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty
Vass; her husband, Richard Hale; and a brother, Rodney Vass. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on

Junior was born
September 16, 1924, the son of Emile R. and Rose C. (Hartweg) Rea in Hancock
County, Illinois. He graduated from Colusa High School in 1942.
He was united in marriage to Margaret E. Morris. She preceded him in
death in 2001. Junior was a lifelong farmer starting at the age of 17
and farmed until 2008. He also enjoyed tractor pulling and in 1967 won
a World Championship in the heavyweight class. Junior had been a
member of the Masonic Lodge. Hunting, sprint car racing, and watching
NASCAR were some of Junior’s favorite pastimes. Junior is survived by three children, Mike
(Evelyn) Rea of Carthage, Rose Mary Rea of Carthage, and Richard (Mary) Rea
of Carthage; five grandchildren, Tammi Seigfreid, Jim (Amy) Rea, John Rea,
Andrew Leach, and Lindsey (Eric) Bergmann; seven great grandchildren, Lauran
(Brad) Cox, Brice (Rebecca Sullivan) Seigfreid, Grant Rea, Kaitlyn Rea,
Tristan Rea, Oren Bergmann, and Atley Bergmann; three great great
grandchildren, Michael, Marshall, and Maeson Cox; one brother-in-law, Ed
Hofmann; and a sister-in-law, Pat Rea. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ed Rea; a sister, Gloria Jean Hofmann; and a grandson in infancy, Justin Michael Rea. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M.

Lyle was born April 2,
1936, in Fountain Green, Illinois, the son of Orville and Olive Walker.
He married Della Patrick in 1954.
They were later divorced. Lyle was an avid mushroom
hunter, trapper, hand fisherman, and gardener.
He enjoyed collecting antiques, picking hazelnuts, going to auctions,
and working in the flea markets.
He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Lyle had worked for Harvey Carl digging wells and for Bousman’s in
Ft. Green. Lyle is survived by five
sons, Melvin (Teresa Tarr) Walker of Quincy, IL, Jim (Vickie) Walker of
Montrose, Iowa, Danny (Teresa)Walker of Carthage, Sam (Linda) Walker of St.
Peters, Missouri, and Joe (Carol) Walker of Carthage; two daughters, Connie
Walker of Santa Anna, California and Roberta (Fred) Smith of Keokuk, Iowa;
fifteen grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death
by his parents; two brothers, Lee and Harry; a daughter, Barbara in infancy;
and a granddaughter, Heather Sue. Funeral services will be
held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Printy Funeral Home in

Mary Frances was born April 8, 1917, in Hancock
County, Illinois, the daughter of Frank C. and Esta I. (Reed) Dye. She
was united in marriage to Rolland Sheets at the First Presbyterian Church in
Carthage. Mary Frances graduated from Carthage High School and then
went on to graduate from Carthage College with a teaching degree. She
started in a one room school house and later taught for over 30 years at the
Carthage Grade School, retiring in 1984. She was a member of the
Women’s Club, D.A.R., Eastern Star and the First Presbyterian Church in
Carthage. Mary Frances is survived by two daughters, Ruth
Harris, of Carthage and Jane Stubblefield of Rantoul, Illinois; 4
grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren; and also her longtime companion,
Otis “Jerry” Howe of Plymouth. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband,
Rolland in 1990; a sister, Ruth Dye and a brother, Leland Dye. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February
5, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Carthage with
burial to follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage. Visitation will

Faye Matlock, 82, of
Elvaston, passed away at Memorial Hospital in Carthage at 11:08 Wednesday,
January 30, 2013.
Faye was born July 22, 1930, in Memphis, Missouri, the daughter of Rochella
and Marie (Baker) Lancaster. She was united in marriage to Eldon
Matlock and he preceded her in death in 1995. Faye had worked at
Dadant’s in Hamilton and Shaeffer Pen in Ft. Madison in her earlier years
and later helped part time in the Elvaston Post Office and for the Village
of Elvaston reading meters for the water department. She was a kind
and positive person. Faye loved working, especially in her garden.
Faye is survived by two sons, Mikel “Mike” Matlock of Hamilton and Don
(Jeanne) Matlock of Carthage; four grandchildren, Kenny (Michelle)
Matlock, Chris (Summer) Matlock, Dawn Jones, and Wesley (Carrie) Matlock;
and fourteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon; and one sister, Jean
Baxter.

A.M. Monday, February 4, 2013 with burial to follow in the Elvaston

Curtis was born July 30,
1977 at Carthage Memorial Hospital to Randall and Janet (Larson) Fleming.
He graduated from Carthage High School in 1995.
He then attended and graduated from Carl Sandburg College in health
science. He graduated from
Kettering University in Dayton, Ohio with certification in MRI imaging.
Through his career he had the opportunity to work with Dr. Stephen
Pomerantz, a well
known
Radiologist in Cincinnati, prior to working at Mayfield Clinic in
Dayton, Ohio then transferring to Glendale, Arizona to open up a new MRI
facility at that hospital. He
moved back to Carthage and had worked at Memorial Hospital for seven years
and was currently employed at Alliance Imaging Group in Macomb, Illinois. He was a unique, loving,
and very caring man, who enjoyed doing things for other people.
He enjoyed his family and friends each and every day.
He enjoyed traveling and touring the world.
He lived each and every day as if it were the last. Curtis is survived by his
parents, Randall and Janet (Larson) Fleming; a sister and his best friend,
Andrea Fleming and husband Adam Jones of Tennessee, Illinois; a nephew, Cash
Jones and a niece, Kymber Jones; his grandmothers, Carrie A. Fleming of
Basco and Carmilee Larson of Carthage; aunts, Marilyn Nelson of Tennessee,
Illinois, Debbie (Wayne) McClain of McKinleyville, CA, and Janet (Don) White
of Waterloo, Iowa; and his faithful loving dog, Vegas.

Wilma was born January 6, 1931, in Bentley, Illinois, the daughter of Louis and Alvina (Beinhoff) Schoch. She graduated from Bowen High School in 1949.
