Carmilee Larson, 97, of Carthage, passed away at 10: 12 P.M. Tuesday, June 19, 2018, in her home at Silver Maple with her daughters at her side.
Carmilee was born to William and Bessie (Barbe) Weatherington on November 29, 1920 near Burnside. She attended Liberty Elementary near Burnside, three years of high school in Burnside, and graduated from Carthage High School in 1937. She then graduated from Western State Teacher College in Macomb. Carmilee began her teaching career at Jubilee school near Burnside which was dear to her heart. She later taught in the LaHarpe district, Bentley and Union Douglas.
Carmilee was an accomplished pianist. She loved music and dancing. She spent many hours with her grandchildren teaching them to play cards and playing the piano as they sang along. She also enjoyed working with her grandkids baking, building, reminiscing and assuring her family that life has many obstacles. On June 16, 1942, Carmilee married Orville Larson and moved to the family farm, east of Carthage, where she lived until Orville’s death in 2000. At that time she moved to an apartment in Carthage where she enjoyed the company and friendship of Wanda Wear.
Carmilee and Orville enjoyed playing cards, dancing, taking bus trips and hosting family gatherings. She spent many years working on the family history of the Larsons, Weatheringtons and Barbes. Carmilee was a 50 year member of the Burnside Chapter No. 223 of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Burnside Christian Church, Liberty Club, Carthage Senior Citizens and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
Carmilee is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Nelson of Tennessee and Janet (Randall) Fleming of Carthage, Illinois; grandchildren, Lori (Mike) Jarrett, Dave (Liz) Nelson, Lisa (Frank) Batchelder and Andrea (Adam) Jones; six loving great grandchildren, Cal and Elle Jarrett, Jack and Grace Nelson and Cash and Kymber Jones. She is also survived by many loving and caring nieces and nephews; and one cousin, Betty Comstock.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a baby sister, Dorothy Winona; a sister, Bonnie Bailey; son-in-law, David Nelson; and a grandson, Curtis Fleming.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 23, 2018, at 3:00 P.M. at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until time of services at 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Legacy Theatre in Carthage or the Carthage Township Cemetery Association. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements
