Charles C. Smith, 84, of Carthage, passed away at 11:02 A.M. Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
Charles was born the son of Williard and Sylvia (Sellers) Smith in Novelty, Missouri on September 02, 1934. On November 23, 1953, he was united in marriage to Alma Joyce Hale in Hamilton, Illinois. She preceded him in death. Charles had worked for Hirum Walker for many years, drove for Prairie Township and had a mowing business for over 20 years. He was a member of Calvary Assembly of God in Carthage.
Charles is survived by four daughters, Mary Joyce Smith of Stronghurst, Barbara (Harold) Shrum of Stronghurst, Illinois, Alma Hull of Elvaston, and Janette (David) Glines of Taylor Ridge, Illinois; five sons, Charles Smith of Elvaston, Richard Lee (Chris) Smith of Bushnell, Bobby Smith of Keokuk, Fred Smith of Keokuk and James (Nikki) Fink of Carthage; nineteen grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Phillips of Nauvoo, Dorothy Hedrick of Burnside, Betty Richie of Grand Junction, Iowa and Wilma Qualls of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alma; a daughter, Linda Sue in infancy; one brother; four grandchildren and a son-in-law.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 16, 2018 at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in the Elvaston Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until time of services at 11:00 at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
