Donald Brooks Farris, 85, of Hamilton, passed away on Friday, May 18, 2018, at the VA Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.
Donald was born on March 11, 1933, in Timbo, Arkansas, the son of William C. and Edna (Long) Farris. On May 4, 1962, he was united in marriage to Peggy Novelene Parker in Mt. Sterling, Illinois. She preceded him in death on December 21, 2017.
A member of the Anchor of Hope Church in Keokuk, Donald spent most of his life working as a logger until he retired in 1985. During his retirement, Donald could often be found at McDonalds drinking coffee and visiting with friends and strangers alike. He also loved to travel wherever the wind took him, often following his “Wandering Feet” and taking trips on a moment’s notice.
Donald is survived by three daughters: Kathy (Frank) Nye of Argyle, Iowa; Lacinda "Cindy" Sparrow of Warsaw; and Shelley Farris of Quincy, Illinois; three grandchildren: Candy (Eugene) Wenke, Shawn (Courtney) Nye, and Sara Sparrow; four great-grandchildren: Chase Brotherton, Cassidy Brotherton, Morgan Nye, and Tyler Nye; and one great-great- grandchild: Parker Andries. Other survivors include his brother Joe (Jeannie) Farris of Tremont, Illinois; his sister Pat Farris of Mountain Home, Arkansas; his sister-in-law Ola Mayes Farris of Mountain View, Arkansas; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers: Charlie, James “J.C.”, Max and Rayburn “Curly” Farris; and his sister Robbie Modine Farris.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton, with Reverend John Curtis officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 am on Tuesday directly before the service.
