Dorothy May Dawson

Dorothy May Dawson, 93, formerly of Hamilton, passed away at 12:30am Friday, June 7 2019 at Fairview Nursing Home in Du Quoin, IL.

Dorothy was born March 6, 1926, the daughter of John and Genevieve (Markley) Symmonds in Hamilton, Illinois.    She attended Hamilton High School graduating in 1944.  On August 28th, 1948 she was united in marriage to Carroll Dawson.

Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Pat Land of Sesser, IL; two granddaughters, Tracy (Chet Edwards) Arnold of Hamilton, IL and Jenny (Ryan) Zettler of Sesser, IL; three great grandchildren, Chris and Landan Arnold both of Hamilton, IL and Megann Manton of Sesser, IL; two great great granddaughters Sawyer & Gracyn Kraus and their Mother Abi Kraus of Nauvoo, IL.  Also surviving are brothers Max (Frankie) Symmonds, JR (Judy) Symmonds, Raymond (Butch) (Debbie) Symmonds and sisters Faye (Carroll) Rairden, Jean Hartweg and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Carroll; two brothers, Bob and Ray Gene Symmonds; three sisters, Betty Wright, Fern Davies, and Ruth Kraft; a grandson, Jeff and a great granddaughter, Makenna.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at the Faith Assembly of God Church in Hamilton with burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton.  Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. until time of services at the church on Wednesday.  Memorials may be made to the family.
