Dorthy Thurman, of Hamilton, formerly of Warsaw, passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2018, at Montebello HealthCare Center in Hamilton.
Dorthy was born on February 4, 1934, the daughter of Charley and Willena (Cravens) Rhodes. On August 21, 1953, she was united in marriage to Jennings Bryan Thurman in Newport, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on November 7, 2003.
Dorthy was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Nauvoo, Illinois, where she faithfully served. She was employed at Sheller-Globe for many years. In her free time, Dorthy enjoyed working on genealogy projects and crocheting.
Dorthy is survived by six daughters: Judy (David) Quimby of Fairfield, Ohio; Teresa Mason of Warsaw, Illinois; Lois (Joe) Shuman of Keokuk, Iowa; Eva (Mike Boley) Thurman of Warsaw; Karen Humphrey of Keokuk, Iowa; and Annie (Wade) Kehler of Hamilton; three sons: Tony Thurman of Cincinnati, Ohio; Roger (Sharon) Thurman of Warsaw; and Stanley Thurman of Peoria, Illinois; two sisters: Nina Rubemeyer of Fort Madison, Iowa; and Sue Mortimer of Warsaw; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Other survivors include many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.
Dorthy is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jennings, her son Steve, her sister Rose Mary Frey and nine brothers: Billy, Albert, Raymond, Leonard, Charles, Floyd, Richard, and Freddie Rhodes, and a brother in infancy.
Services will be held at 1 pm on Friday, September 28, 2018, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Nauvoo, with burial to follow at Nauvoo City Cemetery in Nauvoo, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 11 am to 1 pm on Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints directly before the service.
