Edward Lee Harrison, 85, of Carthage, passed away at 7:50 A.M. Thursday, May 24, 2018 at River Hills Care Center in Keokuk.
Edward was born February 24, 1933, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Albert and Lela (Hackett) Harrison. He attended Carthage High School graduating in 1951. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1951 until his Honorable Discharge in 1953. On August 26, 1953, he was united in marriage to Geraldine Gronewold at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage. She survives.
Ed was a life-long farmer and had also worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation for 26 years retiring in 1998. He was a member of the Carthage Eagle’s Club and Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage. He was a member of the Hamilton Masonic Lodge, Quincy Consistory, the Lamoine Valley Shrine Club where he was past president, and a member of their Bug Unit. Ed lived his entire life in the Carthage area, but also loved spending time in his home away from home, the Lake of the Ozarks.
Ed is survived by his wife, Gerrie, of Carthage; two sons, Mark Edward Harrison and David George (Diana) Harrison, both of Carthage; six grandchildren, Ashley (Josh) Koster, Lindsay (Clint) Cowman, Wesley (Kit) Holst, Adam Harrison, Scott (Kimberly) Harrison, Madison Harrison, Shelby Repplinger and Bria Repplinger; thirteen great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Barbara Harrison of Revere, Missouri; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Robert Harrison; and a brother, Paul C. Harrison.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday afternoon, May 27, 2018, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery near Basco with military rites. Visitation will be held from 12:00 until time of services at 2:00 at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
