Ernest Evermon Obituary

Ernest W. Evermon, 91, of Hamilton, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2019, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

Ernest was born on May 15, 1928, in Revere, Missouri, the son of Everett V and Esther (Krautz) Evermon. On December 31, 1950, he was united in marriage to Leta Pence. She preceded him in death on September 7, 2015.

Ernest worked for many years in maintenance at Stone Container in Keokuk until his retirement. He was known for his ability to fix anything and was always ready to lend a hand without complaint. You never had to wonder what Ernest was thinking, he would tell you exactly what he thought of something, whether you agreed or not. He was an avid gardener, and could often be found around Hamilton tilling/plowing other resident’s gardens as well. In the rare times he wasn’t busy, Ernest enjoyed camping, attending the Mule Festival in Kahoka, Missouri, and most of all, spending quality time with his family. Ernest’s loving and generous spirit will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.

Ernest is survived by his daughter, Joan (Gary) Sparrow of Hamilton; his granddaughter, Cathy (Travis) Devine of Warsaw; a great granddaughter, Montanna Devine of Warsaw; his son-in-law, Edward Barclay of Carthage; and two siblings: Laura (Harold) Webber of Unionville, Missouri; and Zola Brammer of Kahoka, Missouri.

Ernest is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Rosaleta Jean "Rosie" Barclay and twelve siblings: Vera Mae Shuler, Pearl Gregory, Frances Gregory, Howard Evermon, Viola Davis, George Evermon, Myrtle Jean Evermon, Mabel Wolf, Mary Lipper, Roy Evermon, Betty Fox and Beulah Dobson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, November 13, 2019, at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton, with burial with military honors to follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 to 7 pm, with family meeting friends from 5 to 7 pm.

Memorials may be directed to his great-granddaughter Montanna’s college fund.
