Fern E. (Loring) Stump

Fern E. Stump, 84, of Hamilton, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2019, at Montebello Healthcare Center in Hamilton.

Fern was born on June 30, 1935, in LaHarpe, Illinois, the daughter of Clark G. and Rose R. (Howe) Loring. She graduated from Hamilton High School in 1953, and in July of 1953, she was united in marriage to Marshall E. “Peco” Stump. They were later divorced.

A lifelong resident of Hancock County, Fern was a member of Hamilton Assembly of God and spent her working career at Hamilton Cleaners, Earl’s Jewelry, Sheller-Globe and Tri-State Welding. She was a very social person, beloved by everyone. She never sat still for very long, and could often be found crafting or going out to the South Side Boat Club. Fern was a prankster, always playing jokes on her friends and family, whom she loved dearly. She also enjoyed astrology.

Fern is survived by her daughters Kathy (Gabe) Nagy of Warsaw and Karla (Shawn) Leonhard of Hamilton; four grandchildren: Gabriel (Annette) Nagy of Warsaw; Alex Nagy of Warsaw; Mathew (Julie) Settles of Sacramento, California; and Michael (Kim) Settles of Keokuk; eight great-grandchildren: Sawyer Nagy, Saylor Nagy, Savana Nagy, Rhett Nagy, Drake Huffman, Brayden Settles, Payton Settles and Dakota Settles;  and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Fern is preceded in death by her parents, her son Kevin, her brother George Loring and her sister Velma Wollbrink.

Fern’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service at 3 pm on Saturday, November 30, 2019, at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 to 3 pm directly before the service.
