Gertie H. Ruffcorn

Gertie H. Ruffcorn, 91, of Carthage passed away at 9:30 P.M. Tuesday evening May 1, 2018 at her home in Carthage.

Gertie was born December 16, 1926, the daughter of Howard and Lucille (Saunders) Umbenhower in Bonner Springs, Kansas. On January 8, 1946 she was united in marriage to Dale A. Ruffcorn in Bonner Springs. He preceded her in death in September 19, 1974. Gertie was a member of the Elvaston Community Church, Red Hat Society and a life member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She loved her family and there was always room for one more at her table. Gertie enjoyed working at Robert Morris College in Carthage for several years. She also enjoyed crocheting.

Gertie is survived by six children, Viola Ruffcorn (Jason Knowles) of Agency, Iowa, Brenda (Tim) Northway of Denver, Illinois, Janet (Larry) Johnson of Hamilton, Jenny (Robert) Johnson of Denver, Illinois, Bert Ruffcorn (Nancy Bentley) of Carthage and Don (Janie) Garrett of Charitan, Iowa; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and three sisters, Florence Spencer, Beverly North and Clara Ruggles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; a daughter, Denise; a son in infancy, William Clyde; five grandchildren, Lisa, Jacob, Christian, Steven and Shane; a sister, Nancy; and three brothers, Clyde, Otis and Jerry.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, May 6th, 2018 at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in the West Point Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Saturday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. A memorial fund has been established. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
