John Wesley Leffler, 71, of rural Warsaw, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2019, at his home following a short illness.
John was born on August 2, 1947, in Keokuk, Iowa, to Marcellus and Jean (McAtee) Leffler, and lived his entire life on the family farm near Warsaw, Illinois.
He was a hard-working farmer who was completely devoted to his land. After attending Western Illinois University, he spent his life farming, raising beef cattle, corn, and soybeans. John never married but was extremely dedicated to his family, especially his parents. He always saw to it that they were well taken care of until their deaths in 2006 and 2007.
John was a notable figure in the Wythe community, serving for many years on the township cemetery committee. John was an avid reader, watcher of movies and television, and collector of toy tractors. He loved going to toy shows, and often came home with the newest John Deere model.
John was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister Linda (Robert) Dinges, of Mendota, nephew Jason Dinges of Boston, Massachusetts, niece Jennifer (Jacob) Lindhorst of Glen Ellyn, two great-nieces, Leia and Kaylee Lindhorst, and many friends and neighbors.
John’s life will be celebrated with a funeral service at 10:30 am on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at Printy Funeral Home in Warsaw, with burial to follow at Wythe Township Cemetery in rural Warsaw. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 3 to 7 pm, with family meeting friends from 5 to 7 pm.
Memorials may be directed to the Wythe Community Fund for upkeep and maintenance of the township cemeteries.
