Katherine “Katie” Hackett Mapes, 90, of Carthage, passed away at 8:41 P.M. Monday, May 20, 2019, at her home in Carthage.
Katie was born March 13, 1929, the daughter of Edward B. and Rose (Ewing) Hackett in Carthage. She attended Carthage High School graduating in 1947. On August 26, 1955, she was united in marriage to Jack Mapes in Carthage. He preceded her in death in 2008. Katie had worked as a C.N.A. at Memorial Hospital in Carthage for many years and had also been an Avon Lady for 55 years winning many sales awards during that time. Katie had many interests and enjoyed Bingo, square dancing, embroidery and baking. She had served as a Boy Scout Leader and liked fishing. In addition to baking she canned vegetables from her garden. Katie was a member of the First Christian Church (DOC) in Carthage.
Katie is survived by her son, Marty Mapes of Carthage; a daughter, Teresa Russell of Carthage; a daughter-in-law, Theresa Mapes of Quincy; five grandchildren, Luke Hackett and Lance (Sarah) Hackett, Devan and Dillon Mapes and Sarah Russell; two great grandchildren, Rowan and Gabby; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; sons, Mike Mapes and Larry Hackett; son-in-law, Ernie Russell; a granddaughter, Tara Russell; seven brothers, Ken, Lawrence, Robert, Donald, Thomas, Hugh and Charles Hackett; and a sister, Ruth McClure.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 23, 2019, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until time of services at 11:00 at the funeral home.
