Leonard Eddings Obituary

Leonard Lee Eddings, 77, of Carthage, passed away at 9:38 P.M. Tuesday evening, May 15, 2018, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.

Leonard was born October 20, 1940, in Springfield, Illinois the son of William and Wilma (Magee) Eddings, Jr.  He graduated from Petersburg-Harris High School, where he served as Class President. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture from the University of Illinois.  On June 9, 1961, he was united in marriage to Brenda Page at the Petersburg Presbyterian Church.  She survives.  Leonard was a life-long professional in Ag Business, selling hybrid seeds for several seed companies. During his early career he owned Cabery Illinois Fertilizer and later owned and operated Ag Seeds in Carthage, Illinois.   He continued to maintain his Crop Consultant Certification over the years and enjoyed advising area farmers in the agriculture industry that he was passionate about. He was an active supporter of the FFA in his younger years and he continued to support as a business owner through Ag Seeds.  He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, spending time with his grandchildren, cheering the Chicago Cubs to their World Series Victory in 2016 and a member of the “Daily Coffee Club” at Donny’s.  He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Carthage, and a Veteran serving in both the Army Reserves and Illinois Air National Guard.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Brenda, of Carthage; three children, Robert Dale (Amy) Eddings of Hamilton, Lori Ann (Jonathan) Bradshaw of Wentzville, Missouri, and Richard Lee Eddings of Rushville; four grandchildren, Michael (Sophie) and Jackson (Savana) Dempsey and Alexis and Ashlyn Eddings; and one great grandchild due in November; three siblings, James (Barbara) Eddings, Judy Hollis and Wayne (Karen) Eddings, all of Petersburg and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Sharon Powell; and three brothers, Larry, Russell and Michael Eddings.

A memorial service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.  Visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. until time of services at 7:00 with family meeting friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M.   Memorials may be directed to Illini West FFA Chapter or the Carthage Presbyterian Church.
