Marjorie “Marge” Lee Kazukauskas, 86, of Hamilton, passed away on September 13, 2018, at River Hills Village in Keokuk, Iowa.
Marge was born on May 5, 1932, in Rushville, Illinois, the daughter of Homer and Cressa Mae (Carey) Acker. On June 19, 1954, she was united in marriage to Bruno Kazukauskas. He preceded her in death on November 23, 2004.
A graduate of Western Illinois University, Marge was a beloved school teacher for 32 years at Hamilton and Elvaston, where she taught until her retirement. When she wasn’t working, Marge stayed busy gardening, working in her greenhouse, making ceramics and dolls, and reading. In her younger years, she also enjoyed bowling and golfing. Marge never met a stranger and always had a smile on her face. One of her favorite pastimes was visiting with her many family members and friends. An active member of her community, Marge was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hamilton and the Red Hat Society, and served on the retired teacher committee and with the American Cancer Society.
Marge is survived by her son Barry Kazukauskas of Hamilton; her daughter Karrie Kazukauskas of Quincy, Illinois; three granddaughters: Michelle and very special grandson-in-law Dustin Monroe of Hamilton; Kasey Kazukauskas of Vero Beach, Florida; and Kayla Kazukauskas of Hamiton; six great-grandchildren: Brody Monroe, Addison Monroe, Austin Kazukauskas, Olivia Kazukauskas, Jackson Welch and Carlina Welch; her brother Lyle Acker of Quincy; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marge is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bruno; three sisters: Doris Yuskis, Glenna Sheffler, and Dorothy Wepner; and five brothers: Laverne, Paul, Junior, Marshall and Ron Acker.
Marge’s life will be celebrated with a funeral service at 10 am on Monday, September 17, 2018, at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton, with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4 to 8 pm, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
