Mary E. Harris, 84, of Carthage, passed away at 3:32 A.M. Thursday, July 11, 2019, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
Mary was born October 27, 1934, in Plymouth, Illinois, the daughter of Baird and Helen (Hardy) White. She graduated from Macomb High School. Mary loved baseball and softball. She coached the Basco girls’ softball teams for many years and also played fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball for the Basco and Carthage teams. She was a die-hard L.A. Dodgers fan for over 70 years. She had worked at Shellor-Globe in Keokuk for over 30 years retiring 1996. Mary was a member of the Carthage Golf Club and she also bowled for many years. Her greatest love was her family and especially her great grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her son, Tim (Vivian) Harris of Carthage and a daughter, Tammy (Jay) Hall of Sherman, Illinois; grandchildren, Chrissy, Melissa, Trevor and Jarred; great grandchildren, Jessica, Regan, Devon, Trace, Sam, Mabel and Tucker; and a great granddaughter, Mattie; brothers Glen (Pat) White and Chet (Myrtle) White; and a sister, Del White.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Tyler Harris; brothers, Bill, Bob and George White; and sisters, Peggy Duncan and Betty Webb.
Funeral services will be held at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage on Monday morning, July 15, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 8:00 P.M. Sunday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with family meeting friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Memorials may be directed to the Basco Community Center or Donor’s Choice. The family requests casual dress for the visitation and funeral. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
