Mary Eunice Tobias, 85, of Carthage, passed away at Hickory Grove Red Maple Apartments on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 4:43 AM.
Mary was born April 4, 1933, the daughter of Vernon and Roberta (Render) Wear in Carthage, Illinois. She graduated from Carthage High School. On October 30, 1950, she was united in marriage to Harlan Tobias at the Immanuel Lutheran Church near Basco. Mary worked at the Basco Corner Store for over 20 years and then retired from Bill’s Food in Carthage after many more years of service. Mary loved playing cards, playing piano and her animals. She especially loved time with her family. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Mary is survived by two daughters, Pam (Mike) Fenton of Brighton, Illinois and Terri (Keith) Ellefritz of Carthage, Illinois; five grandchildren, Heather (Robert) Sipes, Justin (Tonya) Fenton, Paula (Joe) Tretter, Benjamin (Jessica) Ellefritz and Bart (Ashley) Ellefritz; 12 great grandchildren; one brother, Alfred “Bud” (Linda) Wear of Carthage; two sisters, Alice (Hank) Dierker of North Carolina and Kay Sumner of Quincy; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harlan; one son, Alan Dale Tobias; three brothers, William “Bill” Wear, Robert “Bob” Wear and Vern Wear; and two sisters, Francis “Fran” Artman and Donna Striecker.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. Monday morning, December 31, 2018 at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until time of services at 11:30 A.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Hickory Grove Red Maple or Hearts of Hancock Animal Shelter. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
