Rudy E. Launer, 79, of West Point, Illinois, passed away at 2:02 P.M. Sunday, September 29, 2019, at Sunset Home in Quincy.
Rudy was born December 6, 1939, the son of Wilbur and Lucille (Jones) Launer in Wythe Township. He graduated from Bowen High School. Rudy served in the United State Army from April 1963 until his Honorable Discharge in April 1965 as a Specialist 4 qualifying as a sharpshooter with the rifle and expert with the carbine. Rudy was a life-long farmer and longtime member of the West Point Fire Department. He was well known for his cookie making skills and had even been auctioned off at the West Point Fire Department fund raisers in the past. He loved being outside working with animals. He enjoyed feeding the birds and would love seeing the different kinds of birds that would come to see him.
Rudy is survived by three siblings, Darlene Adcox of West Point, Illinois, John (Margaret) Launer of Severance, Colorado and Marlene Launer of Quincy; nieces and nephews, Jolene Morrill, Jason Launer, Kimberly Hespen and Kevin Launer, Matthew and Ashley Launer and Josie and Kortney Morrill.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
