Sharon Barr, 76, of Carthage, passed away at 4:15 P.M. Thursday, January 10, 2019, at the LaHarpe-Davier Care Center.
Sharon was born July 24, 1942, the daughter of William and Betty (Hainline) Woerly in Macomb, Illinois. She attended high school at WIU Laboratory School in Macomb graduating in 1960. She received her Art and Teaching degrees at Western Illinois University in 1964. On August 22, 1964, she was united in marriage to Marion Barr at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Macomb. Sharon taught art in the Carthage public schools for many years and also served as the teacher’s union president. She also was active serving as yearbook sponsor and class sponsor over the years. After retirement from the Carthage schools, her love of art carried on through the Barr Art Center in Carthage. For many years she taught and encouraged all ages and abilities to pursue their love of art and many are still actively creating today. Sharon’s faith was an important part of her life and she was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church in Carthage.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Marion Barr of Carthage; three children, Teresa (Troy) Morris of Bloomington, Illinois; Christopher (Cathy) Barr of Quincy; Jonathan (Kim) Barr of Carthage: seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Eileen (Lyle) Link of Osage Beach, Missouri and Angela (Darrell) O’Dell of Carrier Mills, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, William Woerly, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Carthage with burial to follow in the Majorville Cemetery near Fountain Green. Visitation will be held Monday from 2:00 – 7:00 P.M. with family meeting friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. following the visitation. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Immaculate Conception Hall Building Fund. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
