Velma Bernice Walker

Velma Bernice Walker, 71, of Kahoka, Missouri, formerly of Hamilton, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

Bernice was born on May 19, 1947, in Hugo, Oklahoma, to J.C. and Bennie (Mater) Watson. Bernice married George W. Walker on August 5, 1965, in Fontana, California. He preceded her in death on April 2, 2012.

Bernice is survived by two daughters: Maryann (Steve) Matava of Hamilton, Illinois, and Tracy Walker of Kahoka; two sons: George L. Walker and Art Walker, both of Fort Madison, Iowa; one granddaughter, Katelyn Matava of Hamilton; and her sister Betty (Bob) Hemstreet of Borger, Texas. She is also survived by many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Bernice is preceded in death by her husband of forty-seven years, George Walker, her granddaughter Amanda Matava and her parents.

Bernice was of the Christian faith and was a homemaker most of her life. In her free time, Bernice enjoyed crocheting, knitting, solving word searches and taking care of her plants.

Bernice’s life will be celebrated with a funeral service at 2 pm on Friday, April 26, 2019, at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton, with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 12 to 2 pm on Friday directly before the service.
