Victor O. Nelson

Victor Olin “Vic” Nelson, 80, of Hamilton passed away at 5:51 P.M. Friday, May 24, 2019, at the Red Maple Care Center in Carthage.

Vic was born November 23, 1938, the son of Olin D. and Margaret Irene (Torrey) Nelson in Princeton, Missouri.  He attended Princeton High School, graduating in 1956.  He then attended William Jewel College and later graduated from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, Missouri, with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1960 and a Master of Arts in 1963.  On August 14, 1960, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Faye Harrington at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Bucklin, Missouri.  Vic taught one year at Ewing, Missouri, and then taught industrial arts for 33 years at Hamilton High School, retiring in 1993.  He was an avid hunter, fisherman, birdwatcher, and gardener (sharing his tomatoes with all).  Vic loved auctions and took meticulous care of his guns and tools.  As a hobby, he would buy and refurbish used tools, restoring them to mint condition.   He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hamilton.

Vic is survived by a son, James Harrington (Debbie) Nelson of Apex, North Carolina; a daughter, Melissa Ann (James) Printy of Carthage; ten grandchildren, Danielle (Andrew) Tremblay, Chase Nelson, Evan (Kati), William (Kelsey), Elaine, Philip, Patrick, Faith, Emma and Tessa Printy; two great grandchildren, Austin Tremblay and Ellie Printy; two on the way and one niece, Vicki Lindberg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marilyn passed away in 2015.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until time of services at 11:00 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to New Tribes Mission or Samaritan’s Purse Ministries.
