Lester Platte, Jr Obituary Lester Laurence "Larry" Platte, Jr., of Las Vegas, Nevada, and formerly of Keokuk, Iowa, died December 6, 2010, at North Vista Hospital in Las Vegas. Larry was born November 13, 1934, the son of Lester Laurence and Lenore Butler Platte. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Before entering the Army, he was employed in Keokuk at Montgomery Ward. After returning from the Army in 1956, he worked at the Union Electric power plant until 1968 when he transferred to the Lake of the Ozarks power plant until 1977. He then worked at Montgomery Ward in Burlington and then Davenport. For a time he ran the Dew Drop Inn in Blandinsville, Illinois, before settling in Las Vegas. While he lived in Keokuk, he was very active at St. Paul's United Church of Christ and Keokuk Jaycees. He was instrumental in the Jaycees obtaining the rocket slide for Kilbourne Park in Keokuk. He is survived by three children, Doug Platte of Keokuk, Cindy Platte of Montrose, Iowa and Brian Platte of Hesperia, California; and one brother, Mike Platte of Sykesville, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, and a sister. A memorial service was Monday, December 27, 2010, at DeJong's Funeral Home in Keokuk. Inurnment with military rites was Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at Oakland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk or the Keokuk Humane Society.
