Alice Harman Obituary S. Alice Harman, 89, of Keokuk, died Tuesday, July 01, 2014, peacefully in her sleep. Her two angels were there caring for her with love and devotion. Thank you Brianna (West) Miller and Elizabeth Miller. She had been surrounded with love from family until her last day. She was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Lyman Kennedy and Sylvia Nichols Kennedy on November 30, 1924. She married the love of her life, Howard Harman on December 25, 1941. He preceded her in death February 10, 2010. Theirs was a true love story starting for her at the age of 16. She stayed on earth for her children after losing Howard But missed him desperately. She is in his arms again, in Heaven with him holding his "Allie". From their union came three daughters; Jo (Bob) Gillman of Bettendorf, Iowa, Sharon (Chris Runyon) Sheffler of Ogallala, Nebraska and Becky (Mark) Sowers of Warsaw, Illinois. Five grandchildren, Steve (Denise) Burwinkel, Nicole (Chad) Wendler, Daniele (Jon) Vollbracht, Scott (Brianna) Miller, and Josh (Elizabeth) Miller. She is also survived by twelve great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and the anticipated birth of the fourth great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, Raymond Batley, brother Charles Kennedy and a baby brother Clayton Kennedy. She belonged to Beta Sigma Phi, the Elks Club, Keokuk Area Hospital Auxiliary and was a volunteer at the hospital. She loved to play golf, play cards, do her crossword puzzle books and was on several bowling leagues. She and Howard enjoyed their trips each summer to Colorado, Idaho and being out west until later years. She was the loving devoted caregiver to "her Howard" and took such good care of him. Her family is still amazed that she was able to do it as he was 6 foot two inches tall and she was only maybe five foot tall. She was a loving mother and grandmother that will so sadly missed. Visitation is Friday, July 4, from 3:00 to 7:00 with family meeting friends from 5 to 7 at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center at 917 Blondeau Street. Funeral are at 1:00 PM Saturday, July 5, 2014, at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Centers at 917 Blondeau with Rev. William S. Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Church.
