Alvin McGaughey Obituary Alvin McGaughey, 94, of Carthage, passed away at his home at 1:07 A.M. Wednesday, February 17, 2016. Alvin was born at Gin Ridge, Illinois, ten miles south of Macomb, the son of Frank and Bessie (Curtis) McGaughey. He was a life-long farmer beginning at a very young age helping his father who was legally blind. On June 30, 1945 he was united in marriage to Vivian Icenogle near Rushville, Illinois. In 1956 the family moved near Carthage. In 1964 they built the Prairie Winds Motel in Carthage. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and First United Methodist Church. He also enjoyed coffee time at Hardee's in Carthage with his many friends. Alvin and Vivian enjoyed traveling and visited Alaska six times as well as many other states. They also wintered in Texas for several years. Alvin is survived by three sons, Rod (Marcia) McGaughey, Don (Cindy) McGaughey, and Lynn (Judy) McGaughey, all of Carthage; seven grandchildren, Melissa (Andy) Roselle, Alison (Chris) Norton, Tim (Nicole) McGaughey, Erin McGaughey, Christina McGaughey, Patty (Jacob) Dlamini and Jason McGaughey; six great grandchildren, Curtis and Carl Roselle, Mbali and Evie Dlamini and Mia and Lily McGaughey. Alvin was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian, in 2005; a brother, Herman Vogler; and a sister, Bernice Vogler. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday morning, February 20, 2016 at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage. Visitation will be held from 3:00 - 8:00 P.M. Friday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with family meeting friends from 6:00 - 8:00. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Carthage or Lee County Hospice. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M.
