Ann Myers Obituary Ann Eckhardt Myers, of Comfort Harbor, Milan, formerly of Carthage, passed into eternal rest, on June 19, 2014. Ann was born on July 22, 1923 to Ruth and Harry Eckhardt. She attended Dallas City High School, and continued her education at Western Illinois University, in Macomb, where she would eventually complete her Masters Degree in Teaching. In 1943, she pursued her passion of teaching, and became a teacher in Dallas City, remaining there for 13 years. She then moved on to Bushnell-Prairie City schools, where she taught for 22 years. During her time at Bushnell P.C., she held the position of Curriculum Director in local, state and federal programs. Ann's career also included teaching in the Western Illinois University Laboratory schools, and being a guest lecturer in Western Illinois Health Services courses. One of her greatest honors was achieved in 1978, when she was honored as Teacher of the Year by the Hancock County Retired Teachers Association. On February 25th, 1983, Ann was united in marriage to Alman Myers. Alman introduced her to the game of golf when she was 60, and together they won first place at a Jack and Jill tournament only a few years later. Golf was most certainly her second passion. She served as secretary for the Deer Run Golf Course in Hamilton, Illinois, and volunteered her time for many of their special events, including organizing the Lefty/Righty Golf Tournament and the Annual Hancock County Retired Teachers Scholarship Golf Tournament. Ann Also enjoyed reading and traveling. She had visited all 50 states, with a glass collection, one from each state, to prove it. Her passion for teaching could be seen in how much she enjoyed talking about it to her students. Years after retiring, she would tell stories to her family about her students and their accomplishments. Her family, who lovingly called her Aunt Peggy, was always amazed by Ann's ability to recall so many names and stories from her teaching days, and never once was it a story of a "bad" kid. She didn't feel there was such a thing. It wasn't uncommon for a story to start with one student and carry on to their siblings, neighbors, and friends, all while referring to each student by first and last name. After all these years students still contacted her, which was a true testament to how greatly she had impacted their lives. A surprise encounter or phone call from a former student always brought a smile to her face. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alman, sister Dorothy, Brother Lee, niece Connie Rae and nephew David Eckhardt. Those left to honor her memory include: nieces and nephews, Iris Strickler, Milan, Larry Eckhardt, Little York, Melanie Dilts, McAlester, OK, Katherine Paulette, Conway, AR, Jane Fisher, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and many great nieces and great-great nieces/nephews. A graveside service will be held at 12:30 pm on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Carman Cemetery in Carman, Illinois, with visitation from 9 to 11 am at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage before the service.
