Betty Coovert Obituary Betty Dee Coovert, 86, of Keokuk, died Saturday, September 24, 2011, at Lexington Square in Keokuk. Betty was born in Keokuk, Iowa, on April 19, 1925, the daughter of Earl Travis Fox and Katie Ilene Falkenburg Fox. Betty married Howard Franklin Coovert at the beginning of World War II. Betty traveled the country on troop trains to visit Howard as he served his country in the United States Navy. They started their family prior to the war's end and made their home in Keokuk. Betty earned her degrees from Keokuk Community College and Culver-Stockton College and substitute taught in the Tri-state area. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Keokuk. She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Coovert, of Keokuk. The last surviving child of Earl and Katie Fox, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; and seven siblings, Ethel (Clayton Hanlin), Ernest (Beulah Shafer), Thelma (Harold Meyers), Louise (Harold Edlen), Harry (Thelma Wooster), Marjorie (Richard Nickel) and Marjorie's twin, Meryl, who died in infancy. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at Messiah Lutheran Church with Rev. Lester Dumer officiating. Visitation will be at the church at 9:00 AM Tuesday prior to the service. Burial will be in Sand Cemetery at St. Francisville, Missouri. Her family is grateful to Dr. Wilson Davis, Dr. Thomas Hakes, Mrs. Catherine "Sis" Breakbill, Mrs. Robin Kitzman, Mrs. Jean Roberts, and everyone at Lexington Square for the care that Betty received as she succumbed to Alzheimer's disease.
