Betty Parsons Obituary Betty Joan Parsons, 81, of Texas, died at 12:15 am on February 23, 2013. She was born on February 2, 1932 a daughter to Otto William & Mary Matilda Jackson Kempkes in Donnellson, IA. For 22 years she was a teaching assistant at Shady Oaks Elementary in Hurst, TX, remaining active in the community even in her advanced age. For 28 years, she had a happy marriage to Ira George Parsons until his death in 1979. Before moving to Texas in 1975 she was actively involved in the PTA and volunteering at Jefferson Elementary in Keokuk. Betty Joan was also preceded in death by her parents; daughters Kathy, Sandra and Carla Jean; granddaughters Anna Jean and Mary Anne; one brother and one sister. Survivors include: sons Robert (Tania) Parsons and Ronnie (Lupe) Parsons; daughters Connie (Ron) Meller and Georgeann (Robert) Alexander; a brother: Thomas Kempkes; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be at 11:00 am on Monday, March 4 at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Centers located at 917 Blondeau St. in Keokuk with Pastor David Barrett officiating. Burial will be in Keokuk National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 on Sunday at the funeral home.
