Catherine Rice Obituary Catherine W. "Kay" Rice, 95, of Carthage, passed away at 5:10 P.M. Sunday, April 30, 2017, at the Montebello Care Center in Hamilton. Kay was born January 8, 1922, the daughter of Frederick Waldo and Eva Catherine (Beller) Whitney in Ft. Riley, Kansas. On April 17, 1942, she was united in marriage to Vilas Clifford Rice in Oildale, California. He preceded her in death. Kay had served as a Girl Scout leader in her younger years and was also in many bridge clubs. She was active in the Republican Party, American Legion Auxiliary and Women's Club. Kay was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Carthage. Kay is survived by one daughter, Catherine Jane Rouyer of Seattle, Washington.; two grandchildren, Catherine and Anne; one great grandchild, Chris; four nieces; and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vilas; a daughter, Judith Ann Brunhouse; and two sisters, Nancy Bishop and Dorothea Etta Reid. A Celebration of Life will be held from 3:00 - 4:30 P.M. Friday, May 5, 2017, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage where family and friends can share stories and memories. Memorials may be directed to the Hancock County Historical Society or Kibbe Museum in Carthage. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements. A Celebration of Life will be held from 3:00 - 4:30 P.M. Friday, May 5, 2017,: at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage
