Charles Brown Obituary Charles "Dick" Brown, 82, of Carthage, passed away at Memorial Hospital in Carthage on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at 3:20 P.M. Dick was born April 16, 1931, in Canton, Illinois, the son of John E. and Della (Woodcock) Brown. He graduated from Canton Illinois High School in 1949. On December 22, 1951, he was united in marriage to Norma Stremmel in Canton, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 until 1955. He received his electrical training while in the U.S. Navy. Dick was a Master Electrician and worked for the United Mine Workers of America and later for Union Electric/Ameren in Keokuk, Iowa retiring in 1993. He enjoyed woodworking and leatherworking. He especially enjoyed horses and raisedand showed Registered Quarter horses for nearly 50 years. He was a member of the Illinois and Iowa State Stock Horse Associations, the Fulton County Riding Club and the Hancock County Saddle Club. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church near Astoria, Illinois. Dick loved spending time with his family. Dick is survived by his wife, Norma, of Carthage; three children, Teresa (Bill) Geissler of Warsaw, Barton (Mary) Brown of Canton, Illinois and Stacey (Dave) Sparrow of Carthage, Illinois; grandchildren, Chris (Jen) Murphy, Taryn and Trey Geissler, Brittany (Andy) King, Kayla Prior, Jason (Aurora) Ballard, Erika (Mark) Thrush and Adam (fiancAC. Betty Adams) Sparrow; great grandchildren, Alexis and Gavin Murphy, Lucus Sparrow, Kanaan King, Emily Kate Ballard and great granddaughter expected in January; two brothers, Willis (Mary) Brown of Canton, Illinois and Jack (Hazel) Brown of Farmington, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Judy Brown of Canton; and also many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sheila Prior; 3 brothers, James, Dallas, and Albert Brown; and 5 sisters, Anna Ewing, Velma Bear, Reba Brown, Bernita Pinkerton, and Bonnie Schiltz. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, October 20, 2013, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 Saturday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. Memorials may be directed to the family of Charles "Dick" Brown.
