Clara Campbell Obituary Clara Marie Campbell, 97, of Carthage, passed away in Monmouth on Friday, September 15, 2017, at 4:50 A.M. Clara was born November 14, 1919 in Pilot Grove Township near Burnside, Illinois the daughter of Charles George and Effie Mae (Weeks) Sowers. She attended Hobart Country School from 1st through 8th grades, attended the three year Fountain Green High School and graduated from Blandinsville High School. In 1942 she went to California and worked for a family as a housekeeper and nanny. On June 27, 1942 she was united in marriage to Carl Leo "Bud" Campbell in Reno, Nevada while he was on leave. She then went to San Francisco where she worked as a maid in a hotel on Market Street. After WWII they lived south of Warsaw for 42 years. They moved to Carthage in 1986. Bud preceded Clara in death in 1988. Clara had worked as a cook for the Tioga Grade School several years and was well known to her students, friends and family for her homemade rolls. Clara enjoyed vegetable gardening, flowers, quilting, sewing and crocheting. She had made and given away many quilts over the years, especially baby quilts. Clara enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She was also an avid reader. Clara is survived by two sons, Carl M. Campbell of rural Warsaw and Daniel L. (Imee) Campbell of Yulee, Florida; a daughter, Carolyn (Richard) Thomas of Monmouth, Illinois; five grandchildren, Kristina (Christopher) Weber, Richard (Tiffany) Thomas, Natalee, Daniel and Jonathan Campbell; and one great granddaughter, Brianna Weber. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Carl "Bud" Campbell; a great granddaughter, Kaitlyn Weber; and two brothers, George and Marion Sowers. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until time of services at the funeral home Saturday morning. Memorials may be directed to Sinnisippi Quilters, Inc or your local school backpack program. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage in charge of arrangements. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M.
