Clyde Nye Obituary Clyde Nye, 76, of Keokuk, died Saturday morning, October 21, 2006, at Keokuk Area Hospital. Mr. Nye was born December 31, 1929 in Louisiana, Missouri, the son of Fred Grant Nye and Lily Arvilla Spellman Nye. He married Illa Jean Doss on September 6, 1946, in Keokuk, Iowa. He had farmed for the past 45 years in and around rural Keokuk. He had also been employed at Keokuk Steel Castings and Electro-Metals (now Ferro Sill). While at Electro-Metals, he was known as "Cedric". He was a member of Joppa Lodge #136, A.F. & A.M. in Montrose, Iowa. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spoiling his great-grandchildren. He had a special nickname for each of the grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Illa Jean Nye; two sons, Glenwood Nye and his wife, Sherry, of Decatur, Illinois and Gerald Nye and his wife, Rosanna, of Darfur, Minnesota; a daughter, Charleen Nye Linquist of Keokuk; eight grandchildren, Shawn Markell and her husband, Richard, Christopher Nye and his wife, Dana, and Tonya Smith of Keokuk, Lonnie Nye and his wife, Heather, of Ft. Madison, Iowa, Larry A. Weber Jr. and his wife, Tammie, of Carthage, Illinois, Michelle Vradenburg and her husband, Kenny, and Clifford Nye of Darfur, Minnesota and Mike Welker and his wife, Anna, of Germany; step granddaughter, Brenda Welch of Decatur, Illinois; 14 great-grandchildren, Kammie, Sharisha & Kayla Markell, Kolton & Braydon Smith, Tanner Horner, Micheal & Matthew Nye, Brooke Evans, all of Keokuk, Dakota & Sheridan Nye of Ft. Madison, Iowa, Jordyn Lucinda Boyles of Chicago, Illinois, Brett Welker of Nauvoo, Illinois, Cody Welker in Germany; stepgrandson, Tristan Guzman of Decatur, Illinois; six step great-grandchildren, Brittany, Andrew & Kade Nelson of Carthage, Illinois, Trevor, Madalyn Fisher & Chance Nye of Ft. Madison, Iowa; two great great grandchildren, Jaryn Bolander & Linkin Dodds of Carthage, Illinois; one brother, Lyndell Nye and his wife, Martha, of Wellsville, Missouri; two sisters, Thelma Louise Purvis and her husband, Lee, of Martinsburg, Missouri and Sharon K. Erwin of Wellsville, Missouri; one aunt, Agnus Wineker of Fulton, Missouri; one uncle, George Spellman of Pittsfield, Illinois; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Lucinda Fern Weber, in infancy; four sisters, Mary Arvilla Jackson, Kathraine Ilene Mann, infant Florence Edna and infant twin, Pauline; two brothers, Veron Clifford Nye and infant twin Paul; and daughter-in-law, Katherine Lorraine Smith Nye. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at DeJong's Funeral Home with Pastor Earl Beal officiating. Burial followed at Hickory Grove Cemetery north of Keokuk. Memorials may be made to Joppa Lodge Scholarship Fund.
