Obituary

Danny Gillogly, 75, of Carthage, passed away at Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.

Danny was born March 24, 1950, the son of Marvin and Martha (Hulick) Gillogly, in Keokuk, Iowa. He graduated from Carthage High School in 1968 and went on to Bradley University in Peoria and received his bachelor's degree from Western Illinois University. Danny served as the art teacher at Carthage High School for several years before opening The Craft Studio and Christmas Shoppe in Carthage. He was united in marriage to Judy Smith on August 12, 1978, at the First Christian Church in Carthage. Danny always loved Christmas and he and Judy co-owned and operated the successful retail business for over 46 years. The Craft Studio and Christmas Shoppe drew customers from all over the region and had been featured many times over the years on broadcasts such as WQEC's Illinois Stories with Mark McDonald. Danny's motto was always: "Kindness Matters" and he practiced that every day. Many, many children and families left the store over the years with complimentary ornaments.

Danny is survived by his wife, Judy, of Carthage; two brothers-in-law, Rick (Connie) Smith and Ron Smith of Carthage; a chosen sister, Patty (Lenny) Chase of West Point; cousins, Barbara (Jim) Forman and Jack Dorsett; many nieces and nephews, Larry (Denise) Bland, David (Julie) Bland-Parker, Conner, Tucker and Grant Bland, Troy Forman and Ashley Fernandez, Amber Smith, Ashley (Cole) Krieg, Ryley (Stephanie) Smith, Ross (Jessica) Smith and Connor (Colton) Mellinger; great nieces and nephews, Bryton, Peyton and Ashanti Smith, Elly, Avalyn and Raef Krieg, Graham and Mara Smith, Shya, Steffen and Sadie Hope Smith and Carson Mellinger.
