Doris Heller Obituary Doris S. Heller, 89, of Keokuk died December 21, 2013 at 4:25 pm at Keokuk Area Hospital. She was born on September 15, 1924 in Keokuk, Iowa, a daughter to Nels and Emma Larsen Sorenson. She was the last of the Sorenson family. Doris married William "Bill" Heller on August 24, 1947 at First Lutheran Church in Keokuk, Iowa. He survives. Doris was a lifelong area resident and attended Augustana College. She worked at Presbyterian Church as church organist. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Keokuk, member of the Chapter LZ P.E.O., Friendship Circle of King's Daughters, and was past president and board member of the Keokuk Concert Association. Doris received Iowa Governor's Award for Volunteerism. She also received the title of Honorary Kentucky Colonel when living in Jackson, Kentucky, in April, 1986. She always enjoyed playing piano and organ for High School Summer Musicals and other activities. She is survived by her husband William "Bill" Heller of Keokuk, Iowa; three children: Timothy Heller of Houston, Texas, Christopher Heller and his wife Roselle of Marceline, Missouri, and Susan Ligman and her husband Jim of St. Louis, Missouri; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark) Summers, Walter (Tiffany) Heller, Sarah (Jonathan) Reed, Joshua (Abby) Carter and Andrew (Joanna) Carter; eleven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Jonathan Heller, three brothers, and five sisters. A celebration of her life will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, December 26, 2013, at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center located at 917 Blondeau Street with Rev. Alice Hawes and Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Burial will follow. Visitation will be 9:00 AM Thursday, December 26, 2013 at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center at 917 Blondeau Street in Keokuk with family meeting friends from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM. A public P.E.O. Memorial Service will be at 10:45 am, Thursday morning at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Cottey College or to Chapter LZ, P.E.O..
