E. Jackson Obituary PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF DAY AND TIME! E. Bernice Jackson, 93, of Keokuk, died at 3:55 AM, Sunday, January 30, 2011. Bernice was born July 8, 1917, in Keokuk, Iowa the daughter of George A. and Edna Lane Burns. She lived all of her life in Keokuk. She graduated from Keokuk Senior High School in 1935. She married V.N. Jackson in May 4, 1945 at her parents' home. He died December 14, 1973. She worked at Jackson Plumbing for 50, years retiring in 1986. She continued the business for 13 years after his death with the help of step-son Kenneth Jackson and son-in-law Michael Johnson. She was an active member of First Baptist Church all of her life, holding every office that a woman could hold. She taught Sunday school and sang in choir all of her adult life. She enjoyed sewing, quilts, which she gave to family, cooking, and traveling coast to coast and border to border, driving and flying alone. She is also survived by her daughters Julia Ruth Johnson and her husband Mike of Gainesville, Georgia; Patricia Lynn Taylor and her husband Dan of Hamilton, Illinois; step-children, Beverly Ann Monahan of Florida; Kenneth Norris Jackson and his wife Jeanne of Texas; Karol Sue Laehn of Mt Pleasant, Iowa; fifteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. She preceded in death by her father and mother and step-mother Mollie, one sister, two brothers, and one half brother. She was the last of her family. Funeral services were Thurssday, February 3, 2011, at First Baptist Church in Keokuk with Pastor Dale Thomas officiating. Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Park. Donations to the Montrose Health Center in Bernice's memory would be greatly appreciated by her family. Donations can also be made to the First Baptist Church of Keokuk and to Lee County Hospice.
