Edward Mitchell Obituary Edward LaVerne Mitchell, 88, of Carthage, passed away at his home Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at 8:35 P.M. LaVerne was born June 18, 1928, the son of Floyd and Doris Jewell (Ferguson) Mitchell in rural LaHarpe, Illinois. He was raised by Fred and Vera Rings until Vera's death then lived with Fred's parents, Ethel and Tylee Adams. He attended grade schools in Webster and graduated from Fountain Green High School in 1945. On July 24, 1949, he was united in marriage to Anna Mae Vance in the front yard of Anna Mae's parents, Joseph and Ruth (Duffy) Vance in Rural Carthage. LaVerne started mechanical work with Carl Motors and also custom farmed until moving to Colorado in 1971 and engaged in road construction. He later ran his trucking business delivering log homes across the country. He returned to Carthage to retire in 2000 but refused to sit still. He drove for Crop Production and the Basco Elevator for more than 10 years. LaVerne was a member of the Bentley Saddle Club and the Mississippi Valley square dance club. LaVerne is survived by three daughters, Joann (Gerald) Kilgore of Milliken, CO, June (Garry) Richardson of Carthage and Janet Mitchell of Anderson, SC; eleven grandchildren, Simone (Rick) Sheppard, Becky (Dan) White, Eric Funkenbush, Cassie (Josh) Blackett, Stephanie (James) Lutter, Stacie (Mark) Thomas, Sam (Angelina) Hardy, Sonia Richardson, Ronda (Dan) Johnson, Donna (Rodney) Rhodes and Brett (Heather) Moore; twenty three great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter, Amilea Jo Hardy; a half-sister, Geraldine (Ed) Dodson of Illiopopolis; three half-brothers, Donald (Margie) Mitchell of Taylorville, IL, Bill (Madalynn) Mitchell of Decatur and Vernon (Karen) Mitchell of Lincoln, NE; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Joyce (Roger) Funkenbush; son-in-law, Steve Hardy; grandson, Scott Bergman; half-sisters, Jeanette Rorie, Joann Meschner, Betty (Leebold) Forquer, Beverly Meyers and Marvella Carey; and half-brothers, Jim and Dale Mitchell, Ron, Henry and Robert Carnes. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday morning, May 22, 2017, at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage with burial to follow in Harmony Township Cemetery near Bentley. Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Sunday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. Memorials may be directed to Harmony Township Cemetery or the Carthage City Park. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 22, 2017: 10:00 am at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage Visitation will be held Sunday: 6:00 pm 8:00 pm at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage
