Garry Mercer Obituary Garry Raymond Mercer, 84, of Springfield, Illinois, formerly of Fort Madison, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. Garry was born November 3, 1938. He served in the US Navy from 1956-1958 and fought for his country during the Korean War. Garry married Margaret Sharon Elmore in 1988 in Keokuk. She preceded him in death on December 20, 2021. Garry was a factory worker at Keokuk Steel Castings for many years. Garry is survived by his sister Reta of Revere, Missouri; his brother Alan Beaird of Wyaconda, Missouri; stepson Wayne Coy of Henderson, Nevada; stepdaughters Bonnie Hardman of Versailles, Kentucky and April Ray of Eagle, Idaho; 6 granddaughters: Jessica Ray of Eagle, Idaho, Melina Uchytil of Caldwell, Idaho, Amanda Homan of Boise, Idaho, Samantha Nolan of Meridian, Idaho, Claudia Hardman of Lexington, Kentucky and Savannah Fowler of Manteca, California; 5 grandsons: Ian Coy and Gavin Coy of Burlington, Iowa, Kevin Hardman of Irvin, Kentucky, Nick Godbehere of Lexington, Kentucky and Cameron Coy of Phoenix, Arizona. There will be no public ceremonies or services.
