Obituary

William was a true craftsman, proud of the work he built with his own hands.

Gerald William Ross Evans, 55, of Keokuk, went to heaven on July 28, 2026, at the Crestview Specialty Care Center in West Branch, Iowa.

William was born on December 10, 1970, at Graham Hospital in Keokuk, the son of Gerald Lee and Alma Marie (Langwell) Evans.

William worked hard and proudly earned and received his GED. He worked for Steel Casting of Keokuk for twenty-three years, Mississippi Blending of Keokuk and owned and operated Custom Iron and Awning in Brunswicks, Georgia. He was a true craftsman, proud of the work he built with his own hands. His work was of such quality that several items ended up in historical magazines. William enjoyed riding his motorcycle and shared that joy with his grandchildren, taking them on rides with him. He enjoyed working on vehicles of all kinds as a mechanic. William loved entertaining his friends and his family.

William is survived by his son Stephen Glenn Edward (Alice) Hickey of Keokuk; his daughters Christi Lynn and Nicole Kehler of Brunswick, Georgia; his brother Floyd Edward Evans of Keokuk; two aunts: Patricia (Langwell) Day of Keokuk and Elizabeth (Langwell) Haist of Hamilton; six grandchildren: Isobel, Kaysen, Gracie, Harper and Brandon, all of Keokuk; and Trinity and Zayden of Brunswick, Georgia.

William is preceded in death by his parents; his son Joseph William Nathaniel “Nathan” Hickey; grandparents Glenn and Alma (McDermott) Langwell; two aunts Verdna (Langwell) Gerstal and Kathy Engstrom Langwell; four uncles: Clarence Day, Ross Langwell, Forrest (Tim) Haist and Jerry Gerstal; one granddaughter Mishea Kehler; and many other family members.

A graveside service at Sunset Memorial Garden Cemetery in Keokuk will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be left at the funeral home for the family in care of Stephen Hickey.
