Harlan Tobias Obituary Harlan Tobias, 85, of Carthage, passed away at 5:38 P.M. Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. Harlan was born October 11, 1931, the son of John J. and Anna L. (Garrelts) Tobias two miles east of Basco on the family farm. On October 30, 1950, he was united in marriage to Mary Wear at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Basco. He then served in the U.S. Army and received his honorable discharge in 1956. Harlan was a lifelong farmer and also drove semi-trucks for the Basco Elevator. He was an "American Picker" enjoying yard sales and antiquing. He also enjoyed mowing yards and woodworking. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Harlan is survived by his wife, Mary, of Carthage; two daughters, Pam (Mike) Fenton of Brighton, Illinois and Terri (Keith) Ellefritz of Carthage, Illinois; five grandchildren, Heather (Robert) Sipes, Justin (Tonya) Fenton, Paula (Joe) Tretter, Benjamin (Jessica) Ellefritz and Bart (Ashley) Ellefritz; 11 great grandchildren; and one brother, Johnnie Tobias of West Point. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Alan Dale Tobias. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, March 27, 2017, at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Basco with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. Sunday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage. Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Blessing Hospice. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
