James Wintjen Obituary James Eugene "Jim" Wintjen, 78, of Carthage, passed away at 12:20 P.M. Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Memorial Hospital in Carthage.
Jim was born March 17, 1938, in Pleasant Hill, Pike County, Illinois, the son of James Andrew and Bonnie (Guthrie) Wintjen. He graduated from Barry High School. He was united in marriage to Mary Lee Williams in 1958 and they had four children, Caroline (Wade) Talley of Perry, Debbie (Eric) Hull of New Salem, James (Dee) Wintjen, Jr. of Griggsville and Sandy (Bill) French of Camargo, Illinois. He married Linda Whitaker in 1974 and of this union there was one daughter, Linda (Tom Baldwin) Smith of Pittsfield. On January 16, 2016 he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Ufkes Powell in Carthage. She survives. He is also survived by step-children, Debbie Jump of Perry and Gary (Lucy) Whitaker of Corning, California; two sisters, Bonnie (Mike) Heimer of Bayliss, Illinois and Mary Moss of Pittsfield; 12 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one step-daughter, Rogenia Whitaker; and his second wife, Linda.
Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1957 until his honorable discharge in 1959. He held various positions in working career retiring from Titan Wheel in Quincy. He loved to cook and managed several restaurants. He enjoyed fishing, camping, going to garage sales, auctions and flea market items. He was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church in Carthage.
Graveside services will be held with military rites at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery near Basco. Memorials may be directed to the Calvary Assembly of God Church in Carthage. Printy Funeral Home of Carthage is in charge of arrangements.
