Jeanne Helene Schultze, 90, formerly of Keokuk, IA, passed away on October 25, 2026, in Phoenix, AZ.
She was born on March 11, 1936 in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of Raymond E. and Helen Ganley Ewers. She married Robert L. Hopkins on June 22, 1957 in St. Mary’s Church in Keokuk. In 1978 the marriage was annulled by the Catholic Church. On June 12, 1982 she married Howard Schultze at All Saints Church in Keokuk. He died May 15, 1983.
Jeanne graduated from Notre Dame High School in St. Louis, MO and furthered her education with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Carthage College and a Master of Science degree from Western Illinois University with additional work at the University of Northern Iowa. In 1989 she was selected as Keokuk Schools’ Teacher of the Year. Even after retirement Jeanne was the consummate teacher. Whether she was evaluating the tidiness of her grandchildren’s rooms, meals she was eating or the care she was receiving; if she granted an A+, you knew it was well deserved.
Jeanne loved a challenge, whether it was solving a math problem or puzzle or designing “Schultze original” hand crocheted items. She made thousands of scrubbies and hundreds of personally designed custom afghans.
if she granted an A+, you knew it was well deserved.
For many years, she was an active member of All Saints Catholic Church serving on the Parish Council and the Catholic School Board. She was a member of Alpha Epsilon Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.
