Harry Joe “Joe” Hill, 91, of Carthage, passed away at his home, Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 8:10 PM.

Joe was born February 27, 1935, in Burlington, Iowa. He graduated from Burlington High School. He then joined the United States Marine Corps and served during the Korean War. He was a proud Marine throughout his life. On November 13, 1982, he was united in marriage to Mitsuko “Mitzi” Bentzinger in Carthage, Illinois. She survives. Joe worked as a guard for the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison. He retired after twenty years of service. Joe was an extraordinarily tidy man that loved cleanliness and order, while never sacrificing his loving family relationships to achieve that. He especially loved being married to Mitzi and never failed to remind her of how much he appreciated her and the life they had together.

Joe is survived by his wife, Mitzi, of Carthage; children, Rick Hill of Burlington, John (Sonya) Bentzinger of Berryville, AK, Donna (D. J.) Cheney of Carthage, and Rick (Melissa, fiancé) Bentzinger of Windsor, CO; many grandchildren and great gandchildren; and a sister, Joann Bryant of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and several brothers and sisters.

Private family services will be held at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.
