Larry Smith Obituary Larry William Smith, 64, of Carthage, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at 11:16 p.m. at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois. Larry was born in Carthage, Illinois on June 14, 1952, the son of William Eli and Viola L. (Lung) Smith. He graduated from Carthage High School and went on to study Farm Machinery Technology at Spoon River College so that he could maintain his own equipment. He was a third-generation farmer and took pride in continuing the family farming and trucking business. He was united in marriage to Rebecca "Becky" (Lemmon) Schroeder at the Ferris Christian Church on June 18, 1983. Larry was a strong, quiet, Godly man who was devoted to his family and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was an active member of the Burnside Christian Church and was also a founding board member and current Treasurer of Christ's Freedom for Haiti. Larry was passionate about serving the people of Haiti and made several mission trips there. He was a member of the Friday Morning Men's Bible Study at the Carthage Dairy Queen. He is survived by his wife, Becky; three children: Rachael (Todd) Martens of Niota, James (Cheryl) Schroeder of Basco, and Sarah (Matthew) Churchill of Greenville, Illinois; twelve grandchildren: Leah, Lydia, Michaela, Grace, Aaron, Levi, Selah, Moriah, and Eden Martens, Nadia Schroeder, Jada and Jairus Churchill; two sisters: Karen (Dan) Craig of Kewanee, Illinois and Donna (Larry) Rauert of Grand Island, Nebraska; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, September 26, 2016 at the Burnside Christian Church with Pastor Mark Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.
