Marlys Smith Obituary Marlys E. Smith, 86, of Quincy, formerly of Tioga and Hamilton, passed away Monday, July 8, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
Marlys was born September 1, 1937, in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of Jewel Ivan and Freida (Miller) Neil. She graduated from Unity High School in 1955. In 1958, she was united in marriage to Richard "Dick" Hardy. She was later united in marriage to Dennis "Smitty" E. Smith in 1988 and he preceded her in death in 2005. Marlys had worked for Sill Motors and the Ron Gooding and Ed Lofton Insurance Companies as receptionists. She looked forward to the family fish fry every October and BBQ ribs during the summer. She liked watching the hummingbirds and cardinals and spending evenings watching Family Feud and The Voice. Marlys also enjoyed playing BINGO at the VFW club, cooking, baking, playing cards with friends and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Hamilton Methodist Church, St. Paul United Church of Christ Fowler and the Entre Nous Club, a longstanding womens civic club.
Marlys is survived by three children, Cindy (Dave) Baxter of Macomb, Bev (Frank) Wellman of Quincy and Todd (Jina) Hardy of Basco; step-daughters, Julie (Raul Salinas) Weber of Hamilton and Lori (Lee) Nordman of Mason City, Iowa; grandchildren, Kristin (Adam) Keefe, Jenna (J.R.) Casteel, Frankie (Christy) Wellman, Craig (Megan) Wellman, Terra (Justin) Dannehold, Austin (Kirsti) Hardy, Andrew (Shelby) Hardy, Janet (Carl) Webb, Devin (Keara) Weber, Tyler (Carrie) Poulter, Trudie (Phillip) Manke, and Tanner (Sarah) Poulter; great grandchildren, Olivia and Johnny Keefe, J.D. and Jayleigh Casteel, Addison and Alaina Wellman, Payton and Aubrey Wellman, Myla and Hudson Dannehold, Cora Martin, Kim Webb, Colin and Maggie Weber, Violet and Amelia Poulter, Rowan Manke, and Samual, Paxton and Max Poulter; siblings, Lavon Hemming and Jim Neil, both of Quincy; and a sister-in-law, Betty Smith of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dennis Smith; siblings, Richard Neil, Virginia Wilson and Donald Neil; and a sister-in-law, Pat Gray.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, July 12, 2024, at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton with burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at Printy Funeral Home in Hamilton with family meeting friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul United Church of Christ in Fowler or the Hamilton United Methodist Church. Printy Funeral Home of Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.
