Richard VanZile Obituary Richard William VanZile, 84, of Hamilton, passed away at 3:44 PM, Monday, December 2, 2024, at Memorial Hospital in Carthage. Richard was born August 31, 1940, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Bernard W. and V. Pearl (Kennedy) VanZile. On March 20, 1958, he joined the United States Navy and proudly served until his Honorable Discharge on March 19, 1964. He served on the USS ARD-29, USS Moctobi and USS Elkhorn. On April 5, 1963, he was united in marriage to Dixie Lee Schneider. She preceded him in death on June 11th earlier this year. Richard spent his professional career at General Mills, Ogilvie Mills and later Archer Daniels Midland retiring in June of 2006. He enjoyed his NASCAR races and hunting. Richard never met a stranger and knew everyone. He was most proud of being a veteran, a loving husband and father and grandpa. Richard is survived by three children, Roger (Donna) VanZile of Monticello, Iowa, Kristina (Gregg) Engel of Hamilton and Paula (Warren) Vickers of Warsaw; grandchildren, Heather (Adam) Washburn of Keokuk, Brian (Leslie Kay) VanZile of Keokuk, Todd (Michelle) VanZile of Keokuk and Trent (Melissa Cox) VanZile of Carthage ; step granddaughter, Katie (Shannon) Smith of Kathleen, Georgia; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Gregory of Keokuk; a brother, Gordon VanZile of Warsaw; brothers-in-law, George Schneider of Montrose, Jack Schneider of Cambridge, Maryland, and Steve (Cindy) Schneider of Montrose; sisters-n-law, Janet (Larry) Hoppe of Hamilton and Dixie Schneider of Canton, Missouri; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, Henry L. and Jessie B. (Boyd) Schneider; sisters-in-law, Alice Miller, Gloria Ruffcorn, Lana Lee, Karen Nichol, Diane Schneider and Charlotte Schneider; and brothers-in-law, Arthur "A.J." Schneider, Jim Miller, Ken Ruffcorn and Kent Lee. Graveside services will be held at the Keokuk National Cemetery at 1:00 PM Monday, December 9th, 2024. Family and friends are invited to meet at Printy Funeral in Hamilton at 12:30 PM on Monday to travel in procession to the cemetery for the service at 1:00. Memorials may be directed to the Great River Honor Flight or Wounded Warriors Project. Printy Funeral Home of Hamilton is in charge of arrangements.
