Richard E. Varner, 63, of Hamilton, passed away at 2:55 PM, Thursday afternoon, September 17, 2026, at the Arcadia Care Center in Havana.

Richard was born July 13, 1963, the son of Lorin and Marjorie (Moe) Varner in Keokuk, Iowa. In 2015 he was united in marriage to Amanda Freitag in Carthage. Richard had worked as a CNA for Montebello Care Center and Mississippi Valley Care Center.

Richard is survived by his wife, Amanda, of Hamilton; children, Catherine Varner of Keokuk, Richard Varner, Jr. of Keokuk, Julia Metcalf of Illinois, Joseph Varner of Keokuk, John Varner of Keokuk and Christian and Lucy Varner of Hamilton; many grandchildren; siblings, Virginia Rose, Mary Davison, Sarah Varner, Julie Varner, Patricia Miller, Theresa Smith, Kenneth Varner, Eugene Varner and James and Craig Varner.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life will be held from 2:00 – 6:00 PM Friday, September 25, 2026, at 1720 Blondeau Street, Keokuk, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family of Richard Varner.
