Obituary

Robert Dale "Bob" Hasten, 81, of Carthage, passed away at the Silver Maple Care Center in Carthage on Saturday, October 18, 2025.

Bob was born October 4, 1944, in Carthage, the son of Dale and Willa Mae (Young) Hasten. He attended Carthage High School graduating in 1962. On August 23, 1964, he was united in marriage to Jody McHugh in Carthage. She survives. Bob had started working for the Super Value grocery store in Carthage during high school and continued working there until 1977 when he left to become a meat cutter for Hy-Vee, a career he had until his retirement in 2006.

Bob was an avid sports fan and participated in competitive fast pitch tournaments for many years in and around the area. After his fast pitch days, he enjoyed slow pitch tournaments. He served as a softball coach at many levels and had the opportunity to coach his daughters and with his daughter in high school. Although Bob loved all competitive sports and would watch anything from football to Texas hold 'em tournaments on TV, he was an avid fan of the Denver Broncos, St. Louis Cardinals and all University of Illinois sports. He loved to play cards at the pool hall with the boys and was ready for a game anytime or anyplace. Las Vegas was one of his favorite vacations and he absolutely LOVED to sing and enjoyed every type of music. However, above all, he loved his family and enjoyed going to and supporting all of their activities.

Bob is survived by his wife, Jody Hasten of Carthage; daughters, Melissa (Kevin) Best of Greeley, Colorado and Jeri (John) Schuster of Lakeville, Indiana; grandchildren, Reagan (Tanner) Johnson, Brock Best, Madison (Mike) Lee and Griffin Schuster; two great grandchildren, Haysten Johnson and Emerson Lee; a sister, Sandra "Sue" Brewer of Carthage; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Loretta Moses, Frankie Lee Hasten, Janice Gilchrist and Barbara Mason; and two brothers-in-law, Yogi McHugh and Michael Thompson.
