Roger Carter Obituary Roger L. Carter, 80, of Keokuk died Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
He was born on August 3, 1932 in Keokuk, Iowa, a son to Charles Henry and Irene Bradley Carter. He graduated with the class of 1950 from Keokuk High School. Roger married Eleanor Engler on July 21, 1957. To that union was born a daughter, LeAnn, and a son, David.
Roger was employed as a lab technician for Electro-Metals. He served in the Navy and the Marines from 1952-1956. He went through Boot Camp for both services.
Roger joined the Keokuk Fire Department January 15, 1962; he retired September 1, 1988. He had a love for the fire department and had a great respect for all who have served.
Roger is survived by his wife Eleanor, his daughter, Le Ann (Randy) Kelly and his son, David (Crystal) Carter, grandchildren: Megan Kelly, Derek Carter, Kristen Carter, and Grant Kelly, and a twin sister, Ruth Chivian.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother.
A celebration of his life will be Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 1:30 PM at Bel Area Baptist Church in Keokuk with Rev Mike McMillen and Ronnie Braggs officiating. Burial with full military rites will follow at Keokuk National Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 4:00 PM Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center at 917 Blondeau Street in Keokuk with family meeting friends from 6:00 to 8:00.
Memorials may be made to Bel Air Baptist Church.
