Ronald Lucas Obituary Ronald Calvin Lucas, 57, of rural Nauvoo, Illinois, died Monday, December 27, 2004 at 4:50 A.M. at his home. Ronald Lucas was born on May 30, 1947 in Norfolk, Nebraska. He was the son of Clayton Calvin and Eleanor J. Bunik Lucas. He married Karen Graham on January 22, 1966 in Carthage, Illinois. She survives. He was a 1965 graduate of Carthage High School and received an Associate of Arts Degree from Southeastern Community College. He was employed for several years at the Benner Tea Company in Keokuk as the produce manager. He was employed as Assistant Cashier and Secretary to the Board of Directors at Norwest Bank in Keokuk until 1989. That year he and his wife, Karen, opened Lucas Fine Furniture in Keokuk, which they owned and operated together until 2002. Ron also owned and operated Lucas River Lodge with Karen on their property south of Nauvoo. Ron loved his wife and family and enjoyed being outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, bird watcher, and raised flowers. Along with Karen, he bred and raised miniature horses. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Hamilton, Illinois and was a deacon there. He was a charter member of the Keokuk Optimist Club, member of the Keokuk Main Street Board of Directors, the Nauvoo Chamber of Commerce, and the American Miniature Horse Registry. Survivors include his wife, Karen Lucas, of Nauvoo, Illinois; two daughters, Julie Ann Simpson and her husband, Rev. John Simpson, of Ft. Madison, Iowa and Jennifer Kay Lucas of Keokuk, Iowa; and four grandchildren, Ronald J. Lucas and Kendra R. Lucas of Arkansas and Jennifer A. Simpson and Ross L. Simpson of Ft. Madison, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jeffrey Calvin Lucas, who died in 1993. A memorial service was held Friday, December 31, 2004 at the First Christian Church in Hamilton, Illinois with Reverend Phoebe Blankenship and Reverend John Simpson officiating.
