Shirley Manning Obituary Shirley Marie Manning, 88, of Longboat Key, FL, formerly of Chicago, IL, passed away June 23, 2024 in Florida. Shirley was born March 23, 1936 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of Dorothy Hoener Wemhoner and Walter (Pete) Wemhoner.
Shirley graduated from Carthage High School, Carthage, IL in 1954. In November of that year, she married Lawrence "Skeeter" Delozier of Carthage. They later divorced. In 1959 she moved to Chicago, IL with her daughter, Theresa. At that time, she began her 40 year career at Rand McNally. She was hired in a clerical position but quickly worked her way up to management in several departments. Shirley was highly respected and not only had unprecedented career success at Rand McNally, but it was where she enjoyed life changing personal success as well. It was there that she met the love of her life, John Manning.
John and Shirley were united in marriage on July 24, 1971. They enjoyed 41 happy years together. One only had to see them look at each other to bear witness to their deep and enduring love, respect and dedication to each other. Together they enjoyed playing golf, traveling, fine dining, Wemhoner Summer and Christmas reunions, fishing trips to Wisconsin, and living life to the fullest.
Shirley is survived by two daughters; Theresa (Carl) Genteman of Dekalb, IL and Kathi Olbur of Huntington Beach, CA, one son; James Manning of Las Vegas, NV, three grandchildren; Stephanie (James), Danny (Kim) and Bailey, five great grandchildren; Desmond (Taylor), Christopher (Angela), Fabian (Corina), Isaac (Josie) and Kaylee, several great, great grandchildren, a special sister and friend; Katey Lunt, Carthage, IL, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John (April 2012), two sisters; Sharon Fink of Wisconsin and Charlotte Laffey of Carthage, two brother-in-laws; John Laffey and Dick Lunt both of Carthage, and one niece; Brandika Fink of Wisconsin.
What a remarkable woman who touched so many and what an incredible life she made for herself and those around her. She was referred to by so many as the classiest lady they knew. Heaven has gained an extraordinary angel.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carthage, IL. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carthage. Burial will be at Moss Ridge Cemetery, Carthage following the service.
