Thelma Jean Duffy, 88, of Quincy, IL, passed away at the Good Samaritan Home in Quincy on Wednesday morning, January 7, 2026, at 3:22 AM.
Thelma was born January 15, 1937, the daughter of Ervin and Opal I. (Groseclose) Jackson in Kirksville, Missouri. She graduated from Carthage High School in 1954 and then went on to receive her Registered Nursing degree from the Gateway Technical Institute in Kenosha, Wisconsin. On June 12, 1955, she was united in marriage to James Phillip Duffy at the Denver Christian Church. He preceded her in death in 2023. Thelma enjoyed sewing, going to auctions, antiquing, and listening to Elvis. She was a button enthusiast and was a member of the Quincy Button Association, Illinois Button Society, National Button Club, and Mississippi Valley Button Club. Thelma enjoyed the Christmas season and loved collecting anything related to Santa. She would put out a Christmas Village every year. Thelma's last 7 years included her faithful cat, Pookey, a stray she rescued. She found her greatest peace during their quiet afternoons together, with Pookey contently napping on her lap.
Thelma is survived by two sons, Michael (Kathleen) Duffy of Pardeeville, Wisconsin, and Alan (Im Suk) Duffy of Federal Way, Washington; her daughter Deborah (Roger) King of Mendon, Illinois; her daughter in law, Denise Duffy; ten grandchildren: Joshua, Julie, Jeffrey, Bethanne, Kevin, T.J., Matthew, Alyssa, Jackson and Tyler; and nine great-grandchildren: Jameson, Grace, Louise, Teddy, Elliott, Elijah, Zander, Jett, and Izzy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; a brother, George Edward Jackson, and a son, David Earl Duffy.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Monday, January 12, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Home Chapel in Quincy, IL, with burial to follow at Harmony Cemetery in Bentley, IL. Visitation will be held from 12:30 – 2pm at the chapel directly before the service. Memorials may be made out to the Quincy Humane Society or the Good Samaritan Home – Employee Assistance Fund. Printy Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
