"Uncle" Courtney Obituary "Uncle" David Donald "Gabby" Courtney, 88, of Keokuk died at 2:47 pm on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at his home.
He was born on December 6, 1923 a son to Charles & Mary Sutton Courtney in Oakdale, IA. Dave married Darlene Varner on July 23, 1949 in Keokuk, IA and she preceded him in death on March 8, 1989.
He worked at Electro-Metals, Dryden's and the City of Keokuk. Dave also repaired small engines for many people over the years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Keokuk. Dave was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and enjoyed all of his friends at McDonald's.
Dave is survived by seven nephews: Henry "Hank", Stanley, Kenneth, Eugene, James, Richard and Craig Varner; six nieces: Virginia Rose, Sara Varner, Patricia Varner, Theresa Willoughby, Mary Davison and Julie Conquest; one sister-in-law: Anna Varner and many great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother, four sisters, one niece and one nephew.
Funeral services will be at 10 am on Saturday, May 19 at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Centers located at 917 Blondeau St. in Keokuk with Jim Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Visitation is from 9 am until the time of service on Saturday.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Forest Lake Camp or donor's choice.
